The Tigers
- The original pair of Sumatran Tigers at Melbourne were Frank
and Poetry.
- As far as I know they bred only the once, producing a male cub, Calang and
a female, Seletan.
- They have since died.
- The present resident of Melbourne is their grandson, Ramalon.
- He was born on the 26th October 1995.
- Melbourne best kept secret has been revealed. On June 11 2004 a female tiger from Rotterdam Zoo in the Netherlands arrived to call Melbourne home. Binjai has had a medical checkup, with an excellent result and has seen, though not met physically, Ramalon. She will be on display from this summer.

The Enclosure
- Opened in October 1993, the Sumatran Tiger and Small Clawed Otter Exhibits
are Stage 1 of the planned Asian Tropical Rainforest.
- The idea is to provide spacious, stimulating and naturalistic exhibits which promote
the welfare of the inhabitants whilst giving visiters an insight into the life of the rainforest.
- The tiger exhibit is built to provide an impression of being along the edge of a river or swamp,
providing the tigers with a large pool in which to swim.
- In all it covers 800 square meters.
- A bamboo 'bridge', which divides the tiger pool from a nearby lake provides an excellent
viewing platform and vegetation was planted to allow the tigers plenty of cover while still allowing the public to view them.
