Sumatran Tigers at Western Plains Zoo
  • Western plains Zoo has several tigers of various sub-species.
  • The Sumatran subspecies is represented by a pair (1.1.)
  • Three Sumatran Tigers were sent from Taronga Zoo when they were old enough to be seperated from their mother.
  • Two have since been sent to other zoo, Ramalon to Melbourne and Dougall to Mogo via Adelaide.
  • The third male tiger, Juara, is still at Western plains. He was born on the 26th October 1995.
  • In January or February 2002 a female tiger, three year old Assiqua, was imported from the Zoo de Doue in France. She has now arrived at Western Plains and hopefully they will soon breed.
  • On her arrival in Australia, Assiqua had to have a tooth capped. It had been broken on her journey.
