Greetings,
We appreciate your thoughtful
consideration of helping the fourth annual Norman Vaughan Serum ’25
Run come to fruition. It is only with the financial support like yours
that the expedition may occur.
As you may already know, Col. Vaughan, the expedition leader, has a
history of achieving remarkable feats. To name a few, this 96-year-old
gentleman has been to the South Pole with Admiral Byrd, saved members of
the Lost Squadron in Greenland during World War II, climbed the
10,300-foot Antarctic peak named in his honor three days shy of his
eighty-ninth birthday, and completed the Iditarod a dozen times. He is
an inspiration to all who cross his path.
Col. Vaughan began the Serum Run expedition to keep a vital part of
Alaskan history alive. Our approximately 800-mile dog mushing journey
commemorates the courageous efforts of the original mushers responsible
for bringing life-saving diphtheria serum to Nome in 1925. The
expedition follows the original route from Nenana to Nome. Original
relay mushers traveled the distance in less than six days – the Serum
’25 Run typically takes 16 days. Ours in not a race.
The expedition places great importance on the education of proper
immunization ad health care. Expedition team members join Col. Vaughan
in sharing important health information to children and their parents in
schools and community centers along the trail. We also hope to inspire
the school-age children to "Dream Big and Dare to Fail!"
Please do not hesitate to contact me, or our organization, with
further questions or concerns. We are a non-profit organization so your

consideration.
