Soldotna resident Daphna Onita (Thurman) Pyeatt, 95, died Friday, June 29, 2012 at Heritage Place in Soldotna. Memorial services will be at 1:30pm Saturday, July 14, at North Santiam Funeral Home in Stayton, Ore. Her ashes will be laid to rest with her husband's in the Claggett Cemetery in Keizer, Ore. Daphna was born Aug 29, 1916 to John P and Lucy H (Burney) Thurman in Cochise, Ariz. After graduating from high school, she went to beauty school. On June 7, 1941, she married James E Pyeatt in Tucson. He brought three children into this marriage, Virginia, James and Donald, and to them one son, Benton, was born. They lived in Arizona for several years before moving to Salem, Ore. where they spent many years. They returned to New Mexico, where they owned a mobile home park. They returned to Lyons, Ore. where they lived for most of the rest of her life, where she worked at the Post Office. In 2005, she moved with her foster daughter, Barbara Trombley, to Soldotna, where she remained until her passing. Daphna belonged to the Methodist Church and North Fork Quilting Club. She had many hobbies and sewed many, many pieces of clothing for all the family. She made western shirts for Saddle clubs, family and Sheriff's Posse. She was chosen to go to Chicago by the Singer Sewing Machine Co., since she was such a great sewer, to learn how to operate the machine, and in turn, she taught others. She also baked and decorated all of the family's birthday cakes and other occasional cakes. She canned for all the family and strived to help the family at all times. She loved to work in the flowers and garden and did fancy work, such as cross stitch, crocheting and quilting. She managed to make each of the family a beautiful homemade quilt, some two or three. In her older years, she loved to paint and color pictures and read animal and bird books. She was always happy and had a smile on her face. Her family writes, "We will miss her so much as she was wonderful asset to our family." She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 66 years, James Pyeatt, sons, Benton and Donald Pyeatt, daughter, Virginia Roles, twin brother, David Thurman, brother, Merlin Thurman and sister, Clarice Trombly. She is survived by a stepson, James Pyeatt of Wickenburg, Ariz., sister, Nellie Sheppard of Yuma, Ariz., several grandchildren, nieces and nephews, a many very good friends, including, Margaret Kergil and Donna Hamilton. Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.

Miami Burial Due For James Pyeatt
Miami, Dec. 15--Funeral services for James Benton Pyeatt, 75 years of age, who died on his birthday anniversary Monday at the home of his son, Andrew Pyeatt, Phoenix, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Payson. Born in Los Angeles, Dec. 13, 1869, he went to Globe in 1875 and shortly thereafter moved to Payson. He was engaged in the ranching business. He has been a member of the Globe Elks lodge many years. Survivors are four sons; Andrew, Phoenix; Lester, Fort Collins, Colo.; Eddie, Rickreall, Ore.; and Lloyd, Globe; three daughters, Mrs. Ollie Anderson, Brawley, Calif.; Mrs. Nellie Cline, Brooks, Ore.; and Mrs. Dollie Lazar, Florence; two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Cooper, Whittler, Calif, and Miss Minnie Pyeatt, Phoenix; one brother, Walter Pyeatt, Madera, Calif., and a number of grandchildren. One grandson, Muriel Pyeatt, was killed at Pearl Harbor. The Globe Elks Lodge will be in charge of services assisted by Warren Strom, exalted ruler of Miami Lodge. Burial will be in Payson Cemetery.

Mary Pyeatt, Huachuca Area Pioneer Dies
Bisbee, Dec. 19 -- (AP) -- Mrs. Mary Ollie Pyeatt, 79 years old, who once attended school with Billy Clanton, one of the principals in the Earp-Clanton feud during Tombstone's frontier days, died Sunday in Tombstone. A native of San Antonio, Tex., she came to Arizona with her family in 1880. She was married at Charleston in 1887 and since that time the family lived in the Huachuca mountain area and Tombstone. She was acquainted with Doc Holliday, the McLowery family, Sheriff John Slaughter and other famous Tombstone characters of its heyday. Surviving are four sons, Seth Pyeatt of Florence, Lon of Tombstone, Irvin of Fry, Russell, Nogales, Roland of Elgin; two daughters, Mrs. J. G. Hanley of Bisbee and Mrs. Luella Cooper, Tucson; and brother Dave Kelly, Petersburg, Tex., 33 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Graveside rites are scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Black Oak Cemetery near the ranch at Canelo in the shadow of the Huachucas.

Glendale--Funeral services for Lester Lee Pyeatt, 56, who died Friday in Channelview, Tex., will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Lundberg-Hansen Mortuary. Friends may call any time today a the mortuary. Mr. Pyeatt was born in Payson July 30, 1900, and had been a cattle rancher. For the past eight years he had lived in Wickenburg. Survivors include his wife, Irene, Wickenburg; a son, Lester I., Channelview; a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Brownell, Custer, S. D.; three brothers, Andrew of Phoenix, Lloyd of Brawley, Calif., and Edward of Cottage Grove, Ore.; three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Cline of Phoenix, Mrs. Dollie Lazear of Florence, and Mrs. Ollie Anderson of Brawley; his mother, Mrs. Mary Ella Pyeatt of Phoenix; and four grandchildren.

LES PYEATT Rites Held In Glendale
Funeral services for LESTER (LES) LEE PYEATT, 56-year-old Wickenburg resident famed for his rodeo skills, were held Wednesday afternoon in Glendale with burial following in that town. Well known here where he was a wrangler at Monte Vista Ranch most of the time between 1948 and 1950 and a leading contender in local rodeos, Mr. PYEATT suffered a heart attack in December and had been ill health since. About two months ago he and Mrs. PYEATT went to South Dakota, New Mexico and Texas to visit relatives. It was while in Channelview, Texas, with his son, Lester, that he suffered a fatal attack on Friday of last week. After doubling between Monte Vista Ranch here and Ed STOPHER's ranch in Estes Park, Colorado, Mr. PYEATT bought a cattle ranch near Aguila in the fall of 1953. He sold the ranch about a year later and purchased a home in Sunny Cove where he had lived since. He was born in Payson July 30, 1900. Survivors include his wife, Irene, Wickenburg; a son, Lester L., Channelview; a daughter, Mrs. Barbara BROWNELL, Custer, S. D.; three brothers, Andrew of Phoenix, Lloyd of Brawley, Calif., and Edward of Cottage Grove, Oregon; three sisters, Mrs. Nellie CLINE of Phoenix, Dollie LAZEAR of Florence, and Mrs. Ollie ANDERSON of Brawley; his mother, Mrs. Mary Ella PYEATT of Phoenix; and four grandchildren.

Andrew McClure Pyeatte, 70, of Cottonwood, a native of Arizona and a retired cattleman, died Saturday at the home of a daughter here. He was a native of Payson and a member of the Monte Vista Baptist church in Phoenix. Services will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Lundberg Mortuary Chapel of the Chimes, 5822 W. Glenn Drive, Glendale. The Rev. William Cravens will officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park. Surviving are his wife, Mabel; two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Reary of Phoenix and Mrs. Jean Clark of Tempe; a son, Howard of Grand Canyon; two sisters, Ollie Anderson of Brawley, Calif., and Dollie Lazear of Florence; two brothers, Eddie of Grants, N.W., and Lloyde of Saltn City, Calif., and six grandchildren. Florence - Graveside services for Russell L. Pyeatt, 65, a World War II veteran, will be at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the Valley Memorial Park. Mr. Pyeatt who died at Pinal General Hospital here Sunday after a long illness, was a native of Ft. Huachuca and came to Florence from Winslow 15 years ago. Before his illness, he worked as a guard at the Arizona State Prison. Surviving are his wife, Rosemary of Florence; two daughters, Lila Mae Pyeatt of Tucson, and Mrs. Nancy Cook of Belvedere, Calif.; four brothers, Lon of Benson, Seth of Florence, Buster of Ft. Huachuca, and Ervin of Agua Prieta, Sonora; two sisters, Mrs. Loulla Cooper of Tucson and Mrs. Dutch Hanely of Bisbee. Graveside services will be conducted by the Florence Church of Latter-day Saints. Military rites will also be conducted by the McLellan-Parson American Legion Post of which Mr. Pyeatt was a member. The Pyeatt family requests that friends contribute to the Asthmatic Foundation in memory of Mr. Pyeatt. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Cole and Maud Mortuary.

Florence - Rosary for Henry Seth Pyeatt, 80, native Arizonan, will be recited at 8 p.m. today in the Church of the Assumption. Funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park. Mr. Pyeatt died Thursday in Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. Born in Bisbee, Mr. Pyeatt was reared in Florence, and except for short absences, he had always made his home here. He worked for many years on the Zellweger Ranch, served a short time as a guard at the Arizona State Prison, and later worked for the City of Florence. Until his retirement May 1, he had been employed on the Clemans Cattle Co. ranches the last 16 years. Mr. Pyeatt was a veteran of World War I serving in France, a member of the McClellan-Parsons Post of the American Legion and the Coolidge-Florence Elks Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Annie; two sons, John of Winslow and Frank of Newark, Calif.; three daughters, Annie Strinni of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Luella Ortiz and Mrs. Evangeline Padilla, both of Florence; three brothers, Lon of Benson, Buster of Fort Huachuca and Irvin of Mexico; two sisters, Mrs. Luella Cooper of Tucson and Mrs. Dutch Hanely of Bisbee; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Howard M. Pyeatt, 68, a retired bus mechanic for Fred Harvey Co. at the Grand Canyon and for Crown Coach Co. in Los Angeles, died Nov. 24, 1986, at Maricopa Medical Center. Mr. Pyeatt, of Phoenix, was born in Arizona and lived in Los Angeles for 10 years before returing to Arizona in 1982. Survivors include his wife, Louise, and sisters, Jean Clark and Ethel Reary. John C. (Charlie) Pyatt, 84, died at Yavapai Community Hospital after a short illness. Born July 9, 1887, in England, he came to the United States as a young man, living in Detroit, Mich. for several years. Mr. Pyatt lived in Prescott for 42 years, then moved to Wickenburg four years ago, where he resided at 63 N. Jefferson. Mr. Pyatt owned and operated his own upholstery shop in Prescott and worked for McIlvain Motors for several years. He owned several mining claims in the Walker area. Graveside services only, will be at Mountain View Cemetery, in Prescott, Ariz., at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27, 1971, with Chaplain Paulding B. Forry officiating. Memory Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Arkansas - Baxter County Funeral services for Simon Isiah Pyeatt, 47, who died at the Saltzman Hospital here (from the September 14 (Wed) 1949 "Baxter Bulletin" )Monday, will be held this morning at 10 a.m. at the Christian Church here with the Rev. W A Cook officiating. Burial will be in the Mountain Home Cemetery under the direction of the Roller-Barber Funeral Service. Mr. Pyeatt is survived by his wife; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. D. Funeral Services for Washington Byrd Pyeatt, 78, who died Wednesday of last week (from the ?September 4th, 1954 issue of the "Baxter Bulletin") at his home here, were held Friday in the Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Harold Lake officiating. Burial was in the Mountain Home Cemetery with the Roller Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Pyeatt was born January 3, 1876, in Missouri and has been a resident of this county for the past 30 years. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Mrs. Mary Azlee Pyeatt, 85, of Route 3, Mountain Home, a longtime resident of Baxter County, died at a local clinic last Friday, March 19. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Mountain Home Church of the Nazarene with Bro. Harold Lake of Kennett, Mo., formerly of Mountain Home, Officiating. Interment was in the Mountain Home Cemetery under the direction of the McClure Service. Pallbearers were Randolph Bryant, James Buckner, Homer Buckner, J.W. Bryant, Walter Brunson and Odus Summers. Mrs. Pyeatt was born at Doniphan, Mo., December 4, 1879, and was the daughter of George McKinney and Dianna McDowell McKinney. She resided in the Buzzard Roost Area, east of Mountain Home, and was a member of the Mountain Home Nazarene Church. Survivors include five sons, Roy and Everett of Mountain Home, Ernest of Aurora, Mo., Claude of Niangua, Mo., and Glenn of Little Rock; nine grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Claude McKinney of Doniphan and Noah McKinney of St. Louis, Mo.; and three sisters, Mrs. Lucy Emmins, Mrs. Elsie Odam and Mrs. Lettie Thompson, all of Doniphan.

A retired farmer, he had lived in Baxter County most of his life and resided on the Pigeon Creek Rd. north of here. Services were scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Oakland Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Lake of Mountain Home officiating. Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery under the direction of the McClure-Smith Service. Pallbearers were Earl Beck, Joe Stafford, Clem Betts, Norman Martin, Edgar Cain, and Eldon Kasinger. Mr. Pyeatt was born at Doniphan, Mo., on May 3, 1907, the son of Byrd Pyeatt and Azlee McKinney Pyeatt. He was married here to Marie Studdard on Aug 6, 1928, and they were the parents of three children. Survivors include his wife, Mrs Marie Pyeatt of Mountain Home; a son, Pete Pyeatt of Henderson; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Friend of Mountain Home and Mrs. Kittie Harris of Sacramento, Calif.; three brothers Roy Pyeatt of Mountain Home, Glenn Pyeatt of Little Rock and Claude Pyeatt of Niangua, MO; and 10 grandchildren.

A well driller and a resident of Baxter County most of his life, Mr. Pyeatt died Monday at Baxter General Hospital. Bro. Bill Hadel of Mountain Home will officiate at the funeral, to be held at the Oakland Baptist Church, on U.S. Highway 62 East. Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery, under the direction of the Roller Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Odus Summers Melvin Johnson, Daniel Grant, Norman Ross, Bert Lance and Isaac Watts. The son of the late Byrd and Mary McKinney Pyeatt, Mr. Pyeatt was born at Doniphan, Mo., Sept 24, 1903. He was married to Anna Ottel Aug. 6, 1924, in Mountain Home. Surviving are his wife, at the home; two daughters, Mrs. Loraine Fischer of Mountain Home and Mrs. Mary Lee Malone of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Glen Pyeatt of Mountain Home and Claude Pyeatt of Niagara, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Anna E. Pyeatt services 2 p.m. today (from the March 19, 1984 (Mon) issue of the "Baxter Bulletin") Funeral services for Anna E. Pyeatt of Mountain Home will be at 2 p.m. today at East Oakland Baptist Church with Brother Bill Hadel officiating. Mrs. Pyeatt, 78, died Friday at Baxter County Regional Hospital. Burial will be in East Oakland Cemetery with George Woodbury, Junior Cox, Calvin Walker, Leo Maynard, Gerald Lance and Calvin Murphy serving as pallbearers. Survivors include two daughters, Loraine Talley of Mountain Home and Mary Lee Malone of Orange Park, Fla.; two brothers, Henry Otton of Neshoba, Mo., and Richard Otton of Wright, Minn.; and 12 grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her parents Henry and Etta Otton and by her husband Joseph Roy Pyeatt. Mrs. Pyeatt who was born Oct. 9, 1905, at Wright, Minn., was a lifetime resident of this area. She was Baptist.

Died, near Cane Hill, in Washington Co, Arkansas, on the 16th of August last, Mr. Jacob Pyeatt, in the 84th year of his age. The deceased was born in the State of North Carolina, and in early life entered in the service of his country, served through one tour of enlistment, and was engaged in the second when peace was declared. He lived long to enjoy the blessings of that liberty for which, in youth, he periled his life. The rich boon of freedom purchased by the heroes of �76 causes the history of their departure to be read with deep emotion and sympathy by the sons of American freedom. But father Pyeatt was a Christian; his religious history, although briefly given, will be peculiarly interesting to the church in which he long lived a worthy member. He professed religion under the ministry of the venerable McGready, in the revival of 1800 in the State of Kentucky, joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church at its first organization, emigrated to Arkansas in 1811, and was one of the members constituting the first Cumberland Presbyterian church ever organized in the then territory of Arkansas. Although often deprived of a preached gospel and the benefits of the ordinances of the church, and surrounded with the wickedness so common in the first settlement of a new country, yet he always stood firm to this profession, honoring the cause of his divine Master. I was intimately acquainted with father P. for sixteen of the last years of his life. I never heard ought said against his character as a man or a Christian, by any friend or aquaintance. As to foes, I think I can safely say in truth, he had none in the entire circle of his acquaintance. He was a warm and liberal supporter of the gospel, particularly of the circuit rider, as almost everyone traveling through the church where he lived can testify. From his own hand have I received liberal contributions, every year since I have been laboring in the ministry. His seat was never vacant in the church, in time of public worship, unless prevented by some unavoidable providence and when at preaching, he always seated himself near the minister, often looking him in the face, saying, as plain as visage could speak, "0 Lord, help thy servant to preach ard bless his labors this day!" He spent much of his time in reading the Bible, and was particularly fond of reading McGready�s sermons, having heard many of them, as they fell from the lips of the living speakers. Being present at the burial, and while gazing upon the pale corpse until closed forever from human vision, I could but say in my heart, farewell, father Pyeatt, until the morning of the resurrection! The ministers of God will have you no more by their side, in the church upon earth. No more will your tears and groans mingle with the penitent suppliants; nor your faltering voice, trembling, lisp the praises of Emmanuel. No, thy immortal spirit is gone to happier scenes! Instead of being seated near an earthly pulpit to listen to a worm of the dust, feebly pleading his Maker�s cause, methinks thou art seated near the throne of God, listening to the heavenly voice of the blessed Jesus. Instead of mingling thy tears and groans or faltering voice in prayer and praise with the church militant, thou art surrounded in triumph with the Angelic choir and redeemed throng, singing with high and melodious accents the immortal notes of LIFE, LIFE, ETERNAL LIFE! GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST! Being suddenly and violently attacked, while at a camp meeting, with the disease which carried him off, and every effort to procure relief having failed, his pious son said to him, "Father, nothing will relieve you; you will have to die." With a smiling countenance he looked his son in the face, saying, "Son, I am not afraid to die; for 84 years I have been trying to serve God. I am ready and willing to go, whenever he calls for me." Yes, he truly decided to depart and be with Christ. He lived some six or seven days after the first attack, suffering intensely, but bore it with Christian fortitude. He lost the power of speech, but retained his reason until the last, frequently giving evidence to surrounding friends of his happy state of mind. He has left children, grand-children, great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends to mourn their loss � But blessed be God; we sorrow not as those who have no hope. John Buchanan

Adele Ruth Michaeli, 87, of Desert Hot Springs and Costa Mesa died March 27, 2004, in Desert Hot Springs. She was born Oct. 10, 1916, to Alfred Dell and Goldena Maupin Pyatt in Missouri. She married Albert Thomas Michaeli on Oct. 5, 1946, in Santa Ana. She was a chemist for Normco in Costa Mesa for 20 years. She was a member of the Lady Elks, Toastmasters and First Christian Church of Santa Ana. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Cedar City Hospital. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Nunan of Costa Mesa; her son, Allen D. Boris of Orange, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Thomas Michaeli, in 1992. Services will be private. Burial will be at Paragonah Cemetery in Paragonah, Utah, with Rose Mortuary of Desert Hot Springs in charge of arrangements.

Florida - Orange County - Allapattah VETERAN PASSES - Col R J Piatt, G.A.R. - Col R J Piatt, who died last Thursday (1923) in his Allapattah home at the age of 79, was born in Boone County, Kentucky, February 23, 1843, removing in early childhood with his parents to central Ohio. When the Civil War broke out, his father, Gen A Saunders Piatt, raised and equipped the first regiment in Ohio, which was called after him, the Piatt Zouaves. Later it became the 34th Ohio. Colonel Piatt had his first taste of active service on his father's staff. Colonel Piatt first came to Florida when he was 26, and ever since had been an ardent enthusiast of his adopted state. Until recently he always owned a grove of oranges, and spent much time and interest in its cultivation. He leaves three sons, A Saunders Piatt of Orlando; J R Piatt of Miami, E H Piatt of Chicago; three daughters, Mrs W H Gray of Portland, Ore, Mrs Elizabeth E Piatt Courtney of Miami, and Mrs J F Rooney of Chicago; a brother, William M Piatt, and a sister, Mrs Belle Worthington, of Washington D C. Early next week the body will be sent to West Liberty, Ohio, for burial. The W H Combs company has charge of the arrangements.

Idaho - Bonner County - Kootenai DAVID H PIATT DIES AFTER SHORT ILLNESS
Was an old resident and stood high in public esteem.
David H. Piatt died Friday of last week at the family home near Kootenai after an illness of three weeks. The funeral service was conducted Monday afternoon at the Methodist church by the Rev. W. Nesbitt Byars. The seating capacity of the church auditorium and lecture room was taxed to capacity and many stood during the service. The large attendance and the profuse offering of flowers silently attested the high place the deceased had held in the esteem of the community where he had lived for the past 18 years. David Hannibal Piatt was born in Washington county, Ohio, June 20, 1876. When a boy, he moved with his parents to Knappa, Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood. There in 1898 he was united in marriage with Miss Ludia Gunter. In 1901 they came west to Idaho and settled in Bonner County, where they have since resided. Since then he has been connected with the cedar department of the Humbird Lumber company. Following an illness of company. He was a member of the M. W. A. Fraternity. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ludia Piatt, his son, Clarence, and daughter, Crissie, his mother, Mrs. A. V. Thatcher of Sandpoint and his brothers and sisters. He stood high in the estimation of his employers as a faithful and efficient manager of his department and the Humbird Lumber company, and was a favorite with his fellow members of the force. He was known as Dave among his associates, and his even temper and cheerful disposition endeared him to all. North Idaho News August 19, 1919

Salvin C. Bates, aged 70 years, died at home in Boonville Thursday morning at 3 a.m. of heart trouble. The funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the M. E. Church by Rev. S. Reid. Burial at Maple Grove Cemetery. Mr. Bates was an old and respected citizen of this county. He was married 4 years ago to Miss Malinda Pyeatt. They were both born and reared in Anderson township, and lived there on a farm until about 15 years ago they moved to Wichita, Kan., where they lived until last July when they returned to Indiana and located in Boonville. There was born to them two children Miss Eva Steffee, who died at Wichita, about 3 years ago, and Albert Bates, who lives on the old family homestead near Yankeetown. Mr. Bates was a Mason for many years and was highly respected by all.

Succumbed to long illness of fourteen years
Had been seriously ill for Four Weeks--Summons Came at 10:45 0'clock Saturday night.
Mrs. O. M. Curtis, wife of Goshen's hardware dealer, passed away Saturday night, the summons coming ast 10:45 o'clock which relieved her from her from ill health which covered a span of fourteen years. She had been seriously ill for four weeks, abscess of the liver being the immediate cause of death. The deceased, whose maiden name was Lucretia Blanche Parry, was born in Tintern Abbey, Monmouthshire, England in 1842 and came to America in early childhood. They settled near Rochester N.Y., for a few years, then removed to La Grange, Ind. She was married to Williams Collett in 1862 and later went to Fayette, Iowa, where is located the Upper Iowa University. Here she took a great interest in literary work and became a magazine contributor, in a serial story by her appearing in the Milwaukee Monthly. They returned to LaGrange where she was on the staff of the LaGrange Standard, having charge of the Woman's department for several years. Her husband died suddenly on Christmas morning, 1875 . She came to Goshen in 1877 and for five years was a teacher in the Goshen public schools. She was married to O.M. Curtis in March, 1881. She always retained her interest in literary and club work, having been a member of one of the earliest classes of the Chautauqua Circle in Goshen and a charter member of Philomathians, in which she was able to keep up active work until the current year. She was a life member of the Methodist church and took a great interest in the active work of the First M.E. church of this city as long as she was able. Besides her husband, the surviving relatives of her immediate family are three sisters, Mrs. Mary Piatt and Miss Mattie Parry, both of LaGrange and Mrs. H. W. RuTon of Goshen. She leaves a large circle of other relatives, who reside chiefly in Goshen and LaGrange. The funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the home, 309 South Sixth street, Rev. M.J. Magor officiating. Interment will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Iowa - Cedar County - Tipton 'The Tipton Advertiser', Tipton, Iowa Thursday, Mar 15, 1877 Pg 3, Column 6 & 7:
MANNA STEARNS was born Nov. 15th, 1806 and died March 2d, 1877, aged 70 years, 3 months and 16 days. He was a direct descendent in the seventh generation of Isaac Stearns who came to New England in 1630 in the same ship with Gov. Winthrop and Sir Richard Saltonstall, and settled in Waterstown, Mass., with his wife Mary, and two children. He is spoken of in the history of Watertown as on of its prominent men. The worthy old Puritan died June 19th, 1674, leaving an estate inventoried at �524 - a considerable sum for those early times - showing that he was in comparative affluence, considering that he had previously given respectable portions to each of his seven children. Joseph Stearns, the grandfather of Manna, removed from Massachusetts in 1793 to Wayne Co., Penn., and some of the family still reside in that locality. Mann in 1830 married his first wife, Angeline Comstock, and settled in Galena, Delaware Co., Ohio. They had four children, two sons and two daughters. The eldest son, William, now resides in Iowa and was present at his father's funeral. The deceased first came to Iowa in 1854, but after prospecting returned to Ohio and came here permanently in 1857. Nov 11th, 1858, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Whitson, who is a second time widow by his demise. Manna Stearns retained many of the characteristics of his Puritan descent, and had a large portion of the self-sustaining, unyielding and independent character of his New England progenitors. He possessed naturally a strong mind and although a descendant of God-fearing people, became from some unexplained and inexplicable cause, a materialist - never obtruding his peculiar views on anyone, but defending them when attacked with all the pertinacity of his nature. He was remarkably clear headed, and his judgment respecting the ordinary matters of life was almost invariably correct. His hatred of dissimulation and hypocrisy was so intense that he often made enemies by openly and boldly rebuking such instances as came within his view. He was rough in manner, but had a kind heart. Those who knew him well thought well of him, and he has left behind many who will deplore his departure. T.

The news of the sudden death of Mrs. C. J. Stearns, which occurred at the home of her son, Robert Whitson, in Santa Ana, California, on Thursday of last week, was received here by telegraph the next day. Mrs. Stearns is an old resident of Tipton, where two of her daughters, Mesdames W. W. Aldrich and J. L. Rowell, still live, and was well known and highly respected here. She went to California for a visit and had only been there about three months. Mr. Whitson is expected to arrive here to-morrow with the remains.

DIED STEARNS - At the residence of her son, Robert C. Whitson, in Santa Ana, California, on Thursday, January 14, 1886, Mrs. Catherine J. Stearns, aged sixty-eight years. The deceased, Catherine J. Piatt, was born in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, Dec. 8th, 1818. On Feb. 11th 1836, she was united in marriage with James H. Whitson, and in June, 1854, the family came to Tipton, which has ever since been the home of the subject of this sketch. By the death of her husband only a few months after her arrival in a strange place, Mrs. Whitson was left a widow with a family of three sons and four daughters to care for. And her force of character and self-reliance were such that she was able to keep them together and afford them the blessings if a good home, with all that that implies. In November, 1859, she was married to M. C. Stearns, who died in 1876. Since then she has continued, most of the time, to keep house here until last October, when she went for a visit to the son to whom fell the melancholy duty of bringing back her mortal remains to be placed beside those who have gone before. When but 16 years of age Mrs. Stearns united with the church and throughout the long years she not only maintained her connection therewith, but lived an active, consistent and useful Christian life. The very largely attended funeral was solemnized by the Presbyterian Church, to which she belonged, at eleven o'clock on Monday, Jan. 25th, Rev. A. C. Brown officiating. The sermon was an enforcement of the text, "Be ye also ready," and the example of deceased was made a comfort as well as a warning to those who remain. Notwithstanding the interval of ten days since decease, the features looked very natural, and were viewed by nearly all the friends present. All Mrs. Stearns' children are living, and all but one were able to be present and follow to her last resting place the loved mother. Mr. John Whitson, of Clinton, and Mr. Oscar Whitson, of State Center, with their wives, Mr. Robert Whitson, from California, and Mrs. Hart, of Sac City, were here from abroad. Mrs. W. W. Aldrich and Mrs. J. L. Rowell, with their families, except Mr. Aldrich, who is serving as juryman in the Federal Court at Keokuk were also in attendance. Interment took place at Sand Hill Cemetery, near Bethel.

Idaho - Bonner County DAVID H PIATT DIES AFTER SHORT ILLNESS
Was an old resident and stood high in public esteem
David H. Piatt died Friday of last week at the family home near Kootenai after an illness of three weeks. The funeral service was conducted Monday afternoon at the Methodist church by the Rev. W. Nesbitt Byars. The seating capacity of the church auditorium and lecture room was taxed to capacity and many stood during the service. The large attendance and the profuse offering of flowers silently attested the high place the deceased had held in the esteem of the community where he had lived for the past 18 years. David Hannibal Piatt was born in Washington County, Ohio, June 20, 1876. When a boy, he moved with his parents to Knappa, Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood. There in 1898 he was united in marriage with Miss Ludia Gunter. In 1901 they came west to Idaho and settled in Bonner County, where they have since resided. Since then he has been connected with the cedar department of the Humbird Lumber company. Following an illness of company. (Sentence does not make sense) He was a member of the M. W. A. Fraternity. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ludia Piatt, his son, Clarence, and daughter, Crissie, his mother, Mrs. A. V. Thatcher of Sandpoint and his brothers and sisters. He stood high in the estimation of his employers as a faithful and efficient manager of his department and the Humbird Lumber company, and was a favorite with his fellow members of the force. He was known as Dave among his associates, and his even temper and cheerful disposition endeared him to all. North Idaho News August 19, 1919

Kansas - Wellington Bill Russell Pyeatt, 66, of Wellington, died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997, at the southwest Texas Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. He retired after 35 years of civil service with the Department of Air Force as a quality assurance specialist. Bill was born Feb. 3, 1931 in Mountain Home, Ark., to William J. and Myrtle Mollie (Studdard)Pyeatt. He married Mable Riley on July 3, 1953 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the South Haven Methodist Church, Wellington Lodge No. 150 AF&AM, Tom Schwinn Post No. 90 American Legion, Chisholm Trailers and Borderlines Camping Club, Phoenix chapter No. 159 Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include his wife, Mable, of the home in Wellington; his son, Mike of South Haven; his daughters, Marsha Dugan of Wellington and Lynda Tompkins of South Haven; his brother, Rex of Mulvane; his sisters, Elsie Jenkins of Belle Plaine and Mary Hayes of Albequerque, N.M; nine grandchildren, Maria Olson, Angela Arrieta, and Mitchell Dugan and Shannon and Seth Dugan, all of Wellington, and Matt and Heath Thompkins and Rachel and Stacy Pyeatt, all of South Haven; three step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 23, at the South Haven Methodist Church. The Rev. Tony Horsely will officiate. Military graveside services will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven. A memorial has been established with the South Haven Methodist Church education fund or elevator fund. Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 this evening. Frank Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Piatt, whose parents were the late Noah H. and Olive M. Bryden Piatt, was born Fe. 20, 1872 in Monticello, ILL. and was reared in Greenwood County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Della King Piatt, three brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the First Methodist Church, Hamilton, conducted by the Rev. Frank Dorsey of Madison. Burial was in Hamilton Cemetery.

She hadlived in Lake Charles for 40 years and was church secretary at our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church for 27 years A member of the Ladies Altar Society and a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion, she was awarded the Order of St. Charles in 1990 for outstanding contributions to the Diocese of Lake Charles. She also received the Pro Pontitice Pace Award for outstanding contributions to the Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband five sons, Ronald Dale Jr., Eric Adam, Wyndall Scott and Mark Allen Piatt, all of Lake Charles, and Gregory Joseph Piatt of McKinney, Texas; one brother, Dr. Charles Guillory of Destrehan; five sisters, Katherine Shutz of The Woodlands, Texas, Evelyn Ardoin of Lake Charles, Hazel Kratzer of Kenner, Carolyn Landry of Lafayette and Frances Trahan of Youngsville; her father Eric Pierre Guillory of Welsh and 12 grandchildren.

Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., after 10 a.m. until religious services at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, conducted by the Rev. Gaylord Dodgen. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by two daughters, Janet Hawley, New Boston, Texas, and Sharon Robinson, Baton Rouge; two sisters, Elva Lawler and Iva Bell Hail, both of Amarillo; three brothers, R.T. Pyeatt, California, Glen and Billy Pyeatt, both of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife, Beulah Bell Pyeatt. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Lake (Ivah Pyatt Lake) passed away May 31, 1947 at St. Lawrence Hospital, Lansing, Michigan She was born near Vermontville October 3, 1880, and attended school at Vermontville several years and later at Charlotte. She was married to William N. Lake October 3, 1906, and has resided on the Lake farm, four miles northeast of Vermontville since. She leaves her husband, one brother, Frank Pyatt of Twin Lake, Michigan; three nephews, Armand and Donald Pyatt of Battle Creek, and Neil Pyatt of Twin Lake; also two nieces, Mrs Thelma Southwin and Mrs Marguerite Coterell, both of Muskegon, Michigan. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Ward Funeral Home, Rev. D. D. Nagle officiating. Burial in Woodlawn cemetery.

Sister of Betty Lynn Greer Barbara Pyatt Mosal, 49, a resident of Jackson, Miss., and a native of Clinton, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She is survived by her husband, Dr. David A. Mosal; three children, David A. Mosal II, Seth H. Mosal and Summer T. Mosal, all of Jackson; two sisters, Betty Lynn Pyatt Greer and her husband, Dr. Glenn Greer, of Oak Ridge, and Sharon Pyatt Pelizzari and her husband, Barry Pelizzari, of Clinton; and several other relatives including two local nieces, Steffanie Anderson and Stacey Turner, and two local nephews, Brandon Pelizzari and Bret Pelizzari. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson. Burial will follow at Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland, Miss. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 tonight, Sept. 4, at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland, and again from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Building Fund at Christ United Methodist Church, 5301 Old Canton Road, Jackson, MS 39211.
