March 7, 2005 - Monday

Nice weather, sunny and quite warm.

An okay day. When I woke up this morning Fumihiko was trying to be friendly, so I knew that things were much better. He even took me out to dinner in our favourite French restaurant. We had a lovely steak dinner. I refused the potatoes, and the chef gave me a salad instead. Yay! When I paid, I thanked him in French! He can't speak English, and I can't speak Japanese, but we can both speak French...well, I sort of can!

I mailed a letter, then we made a brief stop here at the apartment before going to the...drum roll please.....DENTIST!

Last week I broke a tooth, ending months of pain. But today, we decided I should really go and get it fixed. We didn't have an appointment, but we were lucky enough to get in. I say we, because Fumihiko as my Offically Appointed Translator had to come with me. Fumihiko had told me that today's visit would be a look-see kind of thing and they wouldn't do any work on my tooth today. Wrong! I was injected, drilled, prodded, x-rayed, and filled! I have to go back in a few weeks to get a replacement for the temporary crown I got today. I was a little nervous because I had heard bad things about dentists here, but the one I got was very nice and very friendly. He even tried to speak English with me a bit.

His office was very interesting. The patients go into little "pod" kind of things, not into a separate office like in Canada. There are dividers between each patient and while the dentist is with you the assistants are working on someone else. Very different from my dentist in Canada.

After getting fixed up, we left and went to the 7-11 to send off a package of magazines to a friend, then we headed out to the mall. We wandered around for a bit. I looked at women's clothes, and while there were some nice things, I just didn't want to buy anything. My mouth was still pretty frozen at this point.

Fumihiko asked if we could have a drink so we went to a coffee shop. I had iced tea and it was nice. The only problem was that my "suck" didn't work yet. I had to stick the straw in one side of my mouth and suck from there. My bottom lip couldn't move yet.

We wandered around a bit more and my lip all of a sudden seemed to be there again. The pins and needles feeling was gone. Yay!

Fumihiko wanted to have dinner, so we had shabu-shabu in the mall. It was quite nice, but we both ate too much. I did quite well, considering I was a little worried if my tooth would work or not. It did!

We came home via the grocery store and bought some things for this week. Then we came home and watched Mission: Impossible on video. I know the movie makes no sense at all, but I love it! Tom Cruise is just so tragical, to quote an old friend. While we were watching I finished my scarf. It looks great! I also darned in all of the ends. That was a bit hard to do because of the yarn type, but it's done. It cost all of 800 yen, including the needles and the book.

Anyway, tomorrow I'm back to work. I hope this week goes well. I've been printing up a storm at home, trying to make things for my classes. I think it'll be fun.

Got to go, night night!
