Sunny, glorious Spring day.
I had a great day today. It was nice for a change.
I got up in order to watch the news this morning. It was on, but not in English until almost 10. I did laundry though, so my time wasn't wasted! I did two loads today. Yay me.
In the afternoon I read a bit of A Brave New World. It's very....weird. I know it was written a long time ago, but does seem quite timeless. It'll be interesting to find out where the story is going.
I took a shower in the late afternoon, and then took off on my bike. I biked to Pal, a sort of strip mall that's quite far from our apartment. I first went to the video/bookstore and browsed. Right by the door they had old video tapes that were on sale, cheap used ones. Usually they don't have much that I want as they get picked over, but I found a tape I was interested in. A video of Saturday Night Live specializing in Wayne's World. Woohoo. I left it and decided to look around more and think. I looked around, didn't see anything else I liked and went back to the tapes. I noticed the price was only 100 yen, so I decided to get it!
I hacked around the 100 yen shop and didn't buy anything. I did see the mother and grandmother of one of my ex-students though. We said hi and that's about it.
I bought some crispbreads and creamers at the grocery store then headed back towards home. I stopped in at GEO, another video store. I was a bit worried that the video from the other shop would set off their alarm system but it didn't. I've had that happen to me once and it was a bit strange and embarrassing. I looked at the videos and the dvds and finally decided to get one used video. It was a guilty pleasure kind of movie, Blind Fury with Rutger Hauer. I've seen it, but a long time ago.
While I was at the grocery store and while I was in the second video store I got some email from my hubby. He was in a meeting and it wasn't even halfway through yet. This was around 5pm. He's supposed to finish work at 5:15. Poor thing. He'd be late. Very late.
I went to the drugstore next and bought some stuff. I tested some of the store's handcream as my right hand had cracked over the knuckles and bled a bit. Don't worry, I didn't touch the container to my sore spot, that would be yucky.
I came home via the ATM and waited for my husband. And waited. I spent a couple of hours on my computer and then got tired of it. I decided that I wanted to watch the Saturday Night Live tape. Well, what a hoot! It had parts of 3 shows on it. The first one was when Tom Hanks was the guest star, the second was when Wayne Gretzky was on and the third was when Delta Burke was on. I was watching her and trying to figure out if that was when she was in her thin phase, or when she gained weight. Either way, she was gorgeous. It was so totally cool to see Wayne Gretzky on SNL. For those of you who are hockey-challenged, he used to play for the Edmonton Oilers (my hometown team) and is hugely popular in Canada. He's popular in the US too of course, but I have the feeling that this was just after his transfer to the LA Kings. Man was he cute! I didn't think so at the time, but he was. It was fun seeing a lot of the old characters from the shows too. Dear Phil Hartman (RIP) as the Anal Retentive Fisherman, Dana Carvey as Garth and President Bush (the first one). Of course it was great seeing Mike Myers as Wayne too.
Hubby finally came home just after 10pm, utterly exhausted. We had planned to go to karaoke tonight, but I didn't think there would be anyway that we could do that.
We went to Gusto for a quick dinner. Surprise surprise, they are now open 24 hours. Wow. Is that because a 24 hour gyudon shop opened nearby? Hmm. I had my usual grilled chicken with pesto sauce. I really like that.
We came home, vegged for a while and now Fumihiko is in bed snoring away. He's so tired, poor thing. More than 12 hours at work. Sounds like he'll be busy in the next few months.
Not sure what tomorrow will bring, but today was great. It was so nice to get out of the apartment under my own steam. I really enjoyed myself. I must do that more. Remind me please, dear internet readers! Gotta go....Night.
