Very rainy with thunder in the evening.
This has seriously been the worst week for me that I can remember. At least the worst this year. You know how they say things happen in threes? Well, so far this week if you remember I hurt my neck and then fell off a high step scraping and bruising my knee. At least I didn't have to wait very long for the third thing. Read on dear reader, all shall be revealed.
I had a fairly decent morning. I got up and watched the news. Then, I watched a really sad documentary about people in the US who were having a hard time surviving on their wages. I felt so sad for these people, especially a woman whose husband walked out, leaving her with 3 kids and Christmas coming up. She had to go to a food bank for food and presents. These are good, hardworking people, not slackers, not people who are trying to live above their means or anything.
In the afternoon I watched a few episodes of Friends. It was the first time I laughed in days. I'm glad that I did that.
After my brunch, I did dishes and then left for the school. I was wearing my rain cape and rain coat. It was quite nasty out, but the roads weren't busy. I got to the school and prepared my lesson. Well, actually, I'd prepared most of it already, I just had to check it and make a few final notes. When the student arrived we got started. Now, there's a couple of things that I have to tell you to make this story work. This student is a 9 year old boy. He isn't a big fan of English, but he has been doing fairly well recently. Today's lesson was about classroom English using TPR (Total Physical Response for any non-teachers reading). Anyway, one of the commands was, "Come here." For some reason, the boy repeated it to me as, "come on baby." I laughed my head off at that. It was probably not a smart thing to do as now he thinks it's funny, but I couldn't help it. Was this little kid putting the moves on me? I seriously doubt it, but it was such a funny juxtaposition of phrases that I couldn't help laughing.
After that class, I put away toys and prepared for the next student, only, she didn't come. I checked my cell phone and she'd had to cancel. I was sad about that as she's a very nice person and we have some interesting lessons. I did a bunch of work though. I prepped the two kids classes for tomorrow, then a bit of regular paperwork. I even took a short nap. I really didn't want to go home yet. Finally, a bit before 9:00 pm I left the school.
I checked my light on my bike, it appeared to be a bit dimmer on the way to work tonight, but it was fine now. It was quite bright. I took off on my bike. The roads were very quiet. There were a few people out walking dogs in the rain, but not many cars. I was biking on the main road, going straight. I was watching for cars, but all of a sudden I saw this kid on a bike coming out of a side road towards me. He didn't stop. He was a high school student by the uniform, all black of course, no light, and I think carrying an umbrella. We did try to swerve to avoid each other, but didn't manage. Neither of us fell over, but his bike's basket got all twisted and his bike lock fell out. We did ask each other if we were okay, and we were, but now I'm not so sure. My toes on my left foot felt a bit sore, and my right leg has a couple more big bruises on it, but probably we were both lucky. My bike seems to have escaped injury, but the light was a bit bent. I gave him back his bike lock and then biked off home. I was quite shaken, and so I rode even more carefully on the way home.
When I got home, I took a while to hang up my jackets and then went into the bedroom and shut the door. No-one said hello to me at all. I took off my wet pants and checked my legs. The left one seemed fine, but the right one had sprouted a couple of new bruises. I went out to get some ice for my leg and no-one noticed. The other person that lives here went off to take his bath and after that he went straight to bed. Guess that taught me!
I had a cold dinner out of tins. It was great. I had my sardines that I've been saving for a rainy day and some tuna. I made some tea in my coffee press and then came back to my computer. I "chatted" with a friend back home about my husband and my accident and ended up feeling a bit better.
Oh, and I made jello! I bought the pack when I was in Guam and just never felt like making it. It's sugar-free and I made it with club soda, so I'm looking forward to having some of that. It should be good, I hope. It must be almost ready. It's supposed to set for 4 hours....hmmmm. Time's almost up!
Anyway, I do have to go to work early tomorrow so I had better post this and get some sleep. My poor body needs a chance to heal!
I'll likely catch you all tomorrow night. Night then!
