Torrential rain.
I had a fairly productive day today. In the morning I got up and watched the news then did my laundry. I did four loads, but it's done for another week. Yeah. I also wrapped up the magazines that I planned to send off.
I watched Tuesday's Doctor Who with the new doctor and I have to say,"Not bad!" He was funny, charming and a bit off the wall, everything the Doctor should be. I even liked his jammies, although he changed into a suit at the end. That was quite GQ. I'm looking forward to watching more before I really make up my mind though.
I watched a couple more episodes of Friends with lunch, then did dishes and headed off to work. It was horrible out there. I told my student that I nearly drowned. She didn't understand, but it was almost that bad out there. I don't think we even had that much rain in the rainy season.
When I got to the school I was soaked. I hung my wet clothes in the bathroom and changed into my teaching clothes. I was saddened to discover that my heater wasn't on. On reflection, I think it had been, but I may have set it to turn itself off after one hour instead of three. I prepared for my class and then when my student came I taught her. It was okay, except we didn't finish everything. After class I suggested that she get herself an English-English dictionary. I recommended the one I use in my classes, but told her the best thing was to look at some in a book store. Look up a word she knows and see which one has a definition that she can understand. Too easy? Try a higher level dictionary. Too difficult? Try a lower level one.
After she left I finished up my paperwork and hoped that Fumihiko would call me and offer to pick me up. He didn't. BUT, ...he had text messaged me earlier that he would be working late, so I was more hoping without real hope. So, I garbed myself back into my wet clothes, except for the socks...I'd brought an extra pair with me... and headed back into the night. The rain was still pretty bad. It was a fraction less than when I went off to work, but the trip home wasn't nice. However, I made it.
I changed out of my wet clothes again when I reached home. I hung them up with my laundry to dry. I had just sat down at my computer to read my email when Fumihiko came back from work. He'd had to drive to Yamagata tonight. Poor thing.
We were hungry so we went out for dinner to Cocos. We had the same main dish with different side dishes. We had the gorgonzola cheese burger. It's quite good. I call it the Dragon Breath burger because it keeps coming back and it's fierce! I also had the Eringi mushroom salad. It's really nice. I was a bit surprised to see an ex-student there. I'd taught him for 3 classes before he disappeared into the ether! He was a transfer student whose course was being paid for by his company and after he vanished I kept getting requests about his progress and paperwork. The paperwork I sent, the progress reports I sent but they weren't very happy with my reports as I kept mentioning that I'd only taught him 3 times...on only 2 days. Progress? What progress? Anyway, he's a nice guy and he came over to say hi.
When we finished dinner we came most of the way home and then realized that we had to send out my magazines to the lucky people who asked for them. We turned around and went back to the convenience store. We filled out the forms and sent them off. Yay us. I'm just happy to get them out of my apartment.
We came home and spent a quiet evening in front of our computers. Fumihiko did some translating for me. I want to let my students know about my holidays over Christmas and New Years. He was a dear and translated and I'm sure improved my letter. I tried to download some worksheets for my students but couldn't. Oh well, another mystery to try to work on.
And that was my day. I'll be a bit busy tomorrow so I'd like to get to bed soon. Catch you tomorrow night? Bye for now.
