Snowy and cold.
Living with someone who isn't from my culture is cool. I just hiccuped loudly and my husband said, "Bless you." He knows that he's supposed to say,"Bless you" when I sneeze, but he also says it when I hiccup, burp or make other involuntary personal noises! It's become "our little joke".
Today I had a hard time getting up. Oh well, what's new! We couldn't decide where to go for our brunch, so we finally decided on the Washington Hotel. However, when we got there we discovered that they were remodeling and were closed. Yikes. We ended up going to Paris Cinq, a really nice swanky French restaurant in Tsuruoka. It was good. We had to park in the bookstore's parking lot near the restaurant so we decided to go in and see what they had. I didn't buy much, just some ink for my little fountain pen. We looked at the dvds and bought 5. We got The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, Airport, and two old black and white ones, It Happened Last Night, and Rebecca. I have never seen Rebecca, although I loved the novel, and I love It Happened One Night. I think I have a thing for Claudette Colbert. She was awesome.
We went to the mall. I did a little shopping. I got a yoga mat so I can start doing Pilates in the living room and a new pair of slippers. I got fuzzy turquoise ones, they're very comfy and pretty. My old ones were Mr. Donut freebies and are very old. I'll probably keep them a while, but they were getting a little worn out.
We picked up some travel brochures, but we can't go anywhere until I get my new passport. Fumihiko was thinking about going to Taipei next month, but there'd be no way I'd get my passport in time. Sigh.
We were at a loss for something to do, so Fumihiko suggested coin games. I agreed, but only for an hour. It was just before 6 and I didn't want to spend the whole night there. I played my machine, he played his for a while. I did okay, but got bored before my hour was up, so I gave him my leftover coins and said I was going to look around. 20 minutes later I came back and he wasn't ready to quit. I announced that our hour was up. He didn't seem to care. So, I said I was going to go shopping in Jusco. That's what I did. I went off to Jusco, looked at the ladies clothing, didn't get excited, looked at the craft section, didn't get excited. I sent him a mail asking if he was finished yet, but didn't get any answer. On the way back to the game center I stopped off in a home decorating store and discovered something wonderful. They had sugarfree chocolate! Yeah! I bought 5 bars. I don't eat a lot of chocolate these days, but some days, you just gotta have some. (Also the fact that hubby has been chowing down on his Valentine's day "Choco" in front of me doesn't help much!)
When I got back to the game center someone had the nerve to say he'd been waiting for me. (He was STILL playing the stupid game). I asked if he'd seen my email. He hadn't. Men! He kept playing for a good 20 minutes more while I stood there, sweating from the heat and starting to feel really bad again because of the noise and just being a bit angry.
Finally we left, and came back to Tsuruoka. We went to Dan for dinner. It was quite nice. We had stir-fried pork and kimchee, eggplant, tofu and daikon salad, chicken skewer and octopus sashimi. Yum.
When we came home we watched Airport. I had seen it a very, very long time ago (probably when it first came out!) and really enjoyed it. I was surprised how adult the situations were, and how things have changed. For example, Dean Martin's pilot and Jacqueline Bisset's Flight Attendant (Stewardess in those days!) were having an affair and she had just discovered that she was pregnant. He suggested taking her to Sweden for an abortion. I'm not even sure when I last saw a movie that even used that as an option. (I don't mean the Sweden part!)
And that was my day. It's been quite an interesting one. I enjoyed the movie at home, I didn't enjoy the coin game thing. I think it'll be a while before I go there again.
Oh, heavens, I forgot that we went to the other bookstore and I bought "The Constant Gardener". Yes, partly because of the film, but partly because it looks interesting.
Now I'm done! Night!
