November 4, 2006 - Saturday

Sunny but a bit cool.

An okay day. I got up at a reasonable time today...yay...and was able to watch the news before I took my shower. I didn't have a lot of time this morning, so while the news was on I prepared the sauce for my roast. After I showered and got to my computer stuff.

Around 11 I browned the roast on all sides and then put it in my slow-cooker. I poured the sauce over it, set the switch to low, and that was that! I got on with making my breakfast. I had a ham and cheese omelette with some leftover veggies in it for good measure. Yum. It was great.

I biked off to the school just before 12, and when I got there I did a bit of cleaning and prepped the lesson for the student today. It was a repeat of one I taught last week, so it wasn't a lot of work.

Both of my classes went well today. Hurray. In the first one, the student is a little shy, especially about singing, but did rather well today. In the second one, the kids just "get it" and today was the same. We did a few games that they haven't done before, so they enjoyed themselves. They even brought me a present! They gave me a box with a picture of a pumpkin stuck on it. It was very cute! I'll have to keep it for next year if I have space!

In between the classes I worked on my book again, The Book Nobody Read. It's really fascinating. I've been a bookworm forever, but I find that I'm learning so much. I'm not just learning about Copernicus, cause after all, I'm not an astronomer, but I'm learning about printing techniques, bookbinding and how to make a complete copy of a book when you have two imperfect copies.

I came home after my class and I had just come across the main road when I heard a familiar twang. I checked, and sure enough, one of my back spokes had broken. Sigh. I nursed my bike home, and got there in one piece. Whew.

When Fumihiko came home I asked him to take me to the local bike shop to get my spoke fixed. The dear that he is, he took me. He folded up my bike and put in the trunk of the car. We dropped it off, hopefully I can pick it up tomorrow. Hopefully!

After that I suggested getting a few groceries to supplement what we were going to eat for dinner. He said it was okay, and even though he was dead tired, came in the store with me. I got some "ebi-rolls" ...shrimp with salad in a ricepaper roll, and a daikon salad for our dinner.

When we came home, I took the meat out of the slow-cooker to cool for carving, then I thickened the sauce. I also set the table, and decided to serve tea withour meal. Everything was great, and Fumihiko really enjoyed the meal. Me too! That pork roast that I bought last night is almost finished though. I had to laugh, in Canada my Mum would have cooked one about twice the size, but here in Japan the one I got was "big"!

Fumihiko looked so tired after dinner that I let him off the dishes. I did them and he relaxed. He watched some documentary about the Iraq war, and then took a bath. He's back on the couch now, sleeping quite soundly. He's very tired these days. They aren't giving him his proper days off and he's a bit under the weather. I think he needs a few days off to just veg and relax.

Tomorrow I'm off work and without a hubby as he's off to work and then a party afterwards. I haven't decided how I'm going to spend my day, but I'm bound and determined to enjoy myself! Wish me luck! Night.
