Game Review

Against Riverside Christian, HCS played probably its best all round game of the early season winning 82-31. Utilizing their terrorizing full court press, HCS jumped out to an early 15-5 first quarter lead. Senior Josh Hamilton got several baskets of his 26 points off of the press turnovers. HCS shot 53% from the field, their best of the season. They also went 12/16 from the charity line, their second best this year. Riverside Christian is in a rebuilding year and really had no answers for the Patriots. HCS really put the Cougars away in the third quarter with a 30-11 run. This was the first time this year HCS finally put a team away early on and did not let them get back into the game. Of particular note was the performance of the second team. Sam Sullivan got his first varsity points of the season and finished with eight points. Zach Howard got back on track with a nice 10 points including 2 three pointers, one from the NBA line. Mike Petersen played his best game since the season opener with 11 points. Nate Glass continued his torrid shooting from the free throw line with a perfect 3 for 3. He has now been perfect from the line in two straight games. The one real flaw in the game tonight was rebounding. Although the team got 38 rebounds, Trevor Wagstaffe led the team with 7 rebounds while the HCS big men all had five rebounds a piece. Against a short team like Riverside, HCS should have had 50 rebounds if the big men established themselves properly under the basket. But again the real highlight tonight was the ability of the entire team to contribute to the victory. HCS is now 5-2 and Riverside Christian is 0-2.

Game Preview

Hesperia Christian opens their two game home series prior to leaving for Santa Maria. These two games are an opportunity for the Patriots to fix those problems they have uncovered in the last two tournaments. Riverside Christian last year was a top ten Div VAA team. They did lose Ryan Klix and Ray Manning to graduation so many say they are in a rebuilding year. HCS needs to build on the lessons from the Linfield Christian and Apple Valley Christian games this past week. HCS is presently 4-2. Last year at this point the Patriots were 3-3 against an easier schedule than this year's.
