Coloring your Picture

This is the part of the toon that really changes the way that a picture can look. The colorization of a picture can be somewhat time consuming, but if you learn a few tricks, it can go by a little faster.

1. First thing to do is select the magic wand tool. Then click on the empty part of the outline that you would like to colorize. If you have trouble selecting a portion of your outline because it is to small, turn on quick mask mode and brush over the part that you want to select, after you turn it off you have a selection of the troublesome piece.

2. After you've made your selection, go into the Select menu and into the Modify submenu, then click on expand, choose 1 pixel (you can also use 2 but I find 1 pixel to work well enough for me.).

3. Create a new layer. Then choose the color that you want and then bring up the Paint bucket tool. Fill the layer with the color.

4. Create a new set by going into the Layer menu then into the New submenu and choose layer set. Make sure that the outline is above the set.

5. Drag the colored layer down into the set.

6. Repeat steps 1,2,3,5 until you have filled in the entire outline.

7. After you've filled in the entire outline you might notice that some of your colored layers don't completely fill outline, if you feel like it, you can select the color of the layer and go in with a size 3 brush and fill in the rough spots.

After you've finished all of that you should have something like this.
