Shading your picture

This step is completely optional, if you don't feel like creating the shadows in your toon, you can just continue on to the next step. If you do feel like it, please continue reading.

Now when you chose your picture, you may have noticed that there were some shadows in it.If done correctly these can make your toon look a lot better.

1. The first thing that you have to do is grab the brush tool and make sure that its set to a size 3(if your working on a large shadow or image then use a larger brush). Enter Quickmask mode by clicking on the quickmask icon or pressing the button Q. Go into the Select menu and choose feather. Choose 2 pixels.

2. After you have selected and feathered your selectionyou will want to create a new layer, call it "Shading."

3. Make sure that you still have the brush selected and set it to a size 100. Depending on the darkness of the shadow, if its really dark, then set it to about an 80% if its really light then set it to about a 20-25%.

4. Brush over the entire selection. If the shadow looks to light, then click undo and set the opacity to something darker. Vica Versa for if it looks to dark.

If you did this correctly, then you should see something like this.
