GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES

THE RIVER ROE

It has long been an inspiration to artists, songwriters and poets and without it, Dungiven would not be what it is today. It attracts tourists and holiday makers from all over the world. It's source is on the Glenshane mountain which lies near Dungiven. It then travels down the mountain and through the Benedy Glen and in Crebarkey townland there is a foot bridge and ford of the river. After this it passes by the bottom of the castle gardens and down the side of the town. Just past the entrance to Pellipar lane the River runs under its bridge and crosses the A6 Derry- Belfast road. It then runs along the side of Pellipar lane and past the grand house, following the Ballyquinn road to Limavady.

BENBRADAGH MOUNTAIN

Benbradagh is 'the most beautiful' mountain of the Sperrin Range. Although it's not the biggest of the Sperrins, which divide Derry and Tyrone, it steals all of the glory and is reknowned in local paintings and traditional songs.

''Benbradagh's crown o'er Dungiven Town is still within my view,'' the Winding River Roe.

''With the flowers bloomed on Benbradagh Hill,'' the Flower of Sweet Benbradagh Hill.
