This little girl has a great lesson for us on giving, even "unimportant" stuff!

Hospital and nursing career-boosting article written by
Southern Healthcare & Nursing Recruiters vice president, Tom Kelly.

When her old uncle died, his four year old neice wanted to attend the funeral. After everyone who wanted to got up and spoke, the pastor asked, "Is there any one else with something to share?" What this little kid did was soooo wonderful!

Enemies who hurt us in the Past still cause us pain in the Present.
But, we can end it!

Hospital and nursing career-boosting article written by
Southern Healthcare & Nursing Recruiters vice president, Tom Kelly.

If you've survived from childhood to adulthood, you have been hurt. Probably very seriously. By cruel, viscious, even evil, people.

And, the bad things they did...or said...are still hurting Today, right? Let's end that once and for all!

The "most perfect CNO in the world" wasn't very popular!
  Nursing career-boosting article written by
Southern Healthcare & Nursing Recruiters vice president, Tom Kelly.
I swear to you, there never was a better CNO on the face of the earth. Tough bottom-line manager, fair and polite to everyone from Dietary all the way up to board members, and she got us A+ scores with Joint Commission. But, people thought she was on a pedestal. She didn't have a lot of friends. You really ought to read this. It'll only take two minutes!

Name calling
back stabbing,
yelling,
where is Mother Teresa
when you need her?
It could be a doctor who's having an especially stressful period, a boss who needs to develop more people skills, or even a department head from elsewhere in the hospital whose foul moods create havoc on your nursing unit. But, things are so awful that you tend to wade in and join the battle, yelling at everybody else to behave. Doesn't work, does it? Mother Teresa would say....

Front porches...open windows...licking an ice cream cone. All are memories of summers lived in less-stressful times. But, you can still have fun this summer! Check out some of these cool ideas!
Stress. It's unpleasant. Causes insomnia. Wrinkled brows. Eventually, ulcers, stiff necks, hypertension, sometimes even cancer. But, there are simple, fun, cheap ways to dumping stress. Take a peek at these uncomplicated ways of unwinding. Things you can do to rediscover your gentle, playful, self. And find an interesting, more-innocent world in which to hang out.

The "bad guys"
in your hospital
will try to make
you think you're
a worthless loser.
Don't believe them!
So, you go to work resolved not to let them get to you today. But, within the first half hour, they're making you feel like dirt. Here's how to mentally protect yourself from these terrible onslaughts!

I hate commercials,
but not this one
about nurses!

Nurses do do touch lives! Even though you may "blank out" television commercials like the rest of us, this is one ad that'll touch your heart...and give your day a needed boost!

How the President
of the United States
screwed up a nurse manager's
job interview!
If you're in medical center nursing management, or hospital human resources, you've probably run into some pretty lame excuses from job seekers who arrivelate and disheveled for job interviews. Yeah. Well, you ain't heard nothin' yet! Check out this true story....

Got big dreams
for the future?
Better do 'em now!
A true story about a man who could have made timely changes in his life...but didn't...and lost everything. A message for us!

Do you love
your hospital job?
If not...change it!
If you are one of the fortunates who loves your nursing, practice, or medical center management job, great! But, if you're just "hanging on," you're really hanging on to a hot coal. Release it!

Got a creepy complainer
on your unit's staff?
Encourage her!
"Betty-the-Bitch, RN" is how she was known. Fingers in everybody else's pie, constant second-guessing every nursing unit director decision, and generally bad-mouthing the hospital, its CEO, CNO, CFO, and owners. She was this close to being fired until management decided to break all the rules of "conventional wisdom"

Stressful stuff happens.
But, we prolong it!
Tom points out in this brief article that yucky things are dumped on us involuntarily...but that we ourselves often have the power to control when the stress will end.

"Move" that fight
to a
move-convenient time!
Postpone that fight! Somebody's right in your face..you're unprepared for the onslaught... and your adversary has all the advantages except one: you get to pick the time and place for the fight!

Career Objectives...
Don't screw up
your resume

Great experience? Worked hard preparing your resume? Why set yourself up to have it tossed in the trash by the human resources director at your prospective new hospital? Check out this helpful article by Southern Healthcare & Nursing Recruiters CEO, Melody Oie, MS, RN, CNAA.
