Warcraft III will be released June, 2002. It is again a Real-Time Strategy
game, but with lots of new twists.
New features, changed from Warcraft II, are listed below:
- 3-D Gameplay Graphics - Really nice-looking. You can also
zoom in and out.
- "Hero" Unit Use - Utilize a special unit of your
choice as your "hero". Your hero acts as a general so-to-say
of your
army. He or she is constantly gaining experience points and leveling-up.
Items can also be collected. Your hero acts
similarly to a character in Diablo.
- New Races - In addition to Humans and Orcs, one may also
play as Nightelves or the Undead. These four races are
drastically different from one-another.
- Creeps/Neutral Buildings - Neutral units (Creeps) and buildings
exist on any given map. You can fight creeps for
experience points, and visit neutral buildings to buy items or hire
other units.
- Less Micro-management - Warcraft III lessens the importance
of gathering resources and building a town. Instead
it focusses on the battles. Units are stronger and have more magical
abilities. This makes gameplay a lot different than
other RTS games.
- Map Pre-Explored - Right from the beginning, the landscape
around your base has been completely explored.
Fog-of-war obviously still exists, but you do not have to wonder where
resources are or what the map looks like.
Other features have yet to be added to the game. I can only comment
so far on the Beta release. I'm sure the full-version will
have lots more exciting additions.
