Towers of Magic
Tower of Garnet:
Location:The Tower of Garnet is not a secret place. It is located in Southwestern Altir due south of the Mantara Grasslands. Laying on the point of a coastline, it views the Selphia Ocean south of where it stands. Sitting only on patches of tundra, the Tower appears at first like an old dilapidated battlement from afar. Directly east and from it's viewpoint can be seen the beginnings of the Duraka Mountain Chain. West are the cities, towns, islands, and isthmus of the Gnomish Communities. A few human settlements lay nearby the South Torrence River.
Tower:The Tower itself does not stand out. It is simply a gray granite surface of stone block. It is structured more like a stronghold's tower with arrow slits appearing in many spaces. It was primarily built to ward off the disbelievers of magic in the north. Barbarians of a time past tried to siege the Tower during it's building. The facility is built on a solid flat of rose limestone mined in the crags of northern volcanic cones. The building is wide enough to house sixteen rooms per floor and is storied at some three hundred feet into the air. At the top is a large mirror secured by steel cables for purposes unknown. Within the confines of the tower there is one large chamber for meetings and meals. A high ceiling basement sits below the perimeter, but it is unknown how large it is. Rumors talk of an old tunnel system that goes to the continent of Zoria and the Tower of Smoke.
Tower of Glass:
Location: The Tower of Glass is less exposed to the world, but it is known to those that live in it's region. It lies on the continent of Quinron, in the northeastern portion, where the climes are hot and sometimes unbearable. To the north of it lies the Gargan Ocean, for it sits upon the coast so that the ocean air keeps it cool. To the south are the Sands of Aruman, a desert of soft rolling sand granules. Also to the south, there are the Scattered Hills and the Great Gobu Desert. To west sits the Calien Sea and the east carries the Falling Escarpments where land has no control over the sea. Most living nearby are human in descent, but there are a small group of strange dwarves as well.
Tower:The Tower of Glass is more glass than stone. The lower third of the tower is made of sandstone brick. The upper two-thirds is completely glass. The glass however, is not transparent with the exception of the cap of the tower, which clear for viewing as an observatory. The tower was built as a bastion to magic in the world of old when the cities of Evereth, Argonne, and Vagabond ruled their parts of the world. This oldest tower, is home to the oldest tomes of magic and the beginnings of the heart of JaidA, the goddess of magic. That was a time when the clime was much cooler and land was more vibrant with life. Even before the first cataclysmic events touched the world did this tower still stand. On its interior, are the great meeting halls, the old libraries of magic, and all the rooms of apprentices and younger magic users. A basement, some ten floors deep, holds the more prominent of the neutral order. The tower also holds all the classrooms and guestrooms.
Tower of Gold:
Location:The Tower of Gold is located in Northeastern Altir. It is south of the Farwitten Badlands, north of the Southern Torkon Crags, east of the East Fork River and Mu Saama Mountains, and west of the Delbia River. It lies in a manmade basin and just inside the city limits of Golden. The closest body of water is the Betorie Sea and that is still far to the east beyond the Delbia river. Due south and west is the largest human city on the continent named Grand Forks on the East Fork Rivers. The badlands far to the north, hinder direct travel to the towns north of Golden. Thus trade, travel, and persons desiring to learn magics come from the south, east, and west.
Tower:The Tower of Gold, so named for it's order and for the town it lays near, is also made of the soft metal. Strengthened by magic, it appears to be inlaid over the stonework. It's lower end or base is wide enough to house all the citizens of the city, but yields only a conference room and the many schools for the art. It is rumored there is no underground to build upon, suggesting its lack of strength from underneath. Rising into the tower, many circular windows decorate the stonework. They represent the upper echelons of wizards that have made the ranks of the Great Council. Square windows in the lower ends are small, but elegant and for the guests and young persons learning magic. At the very top of the tower sits a domed cap of gold. It has little octagonal windows in the placement of the constellations. Through one large window stands a structure they call a telescopic eye which may view the skyline.
Tower of Silver:
Location:This Tower is located on the continent of Quinron in the northwestern portion. It lays in the Ashinti Forest near the Bay of Quintas. The Great Forest is the largest known among the world of Jade and contains a high population of elves. It is their natural home north of the largest mountain chain, the Titas Mountains. The Forest stretches northward past the elven city of Ashinti and to the coasts of the Gargan Ocean. It also stretches into the dried plains westward past the feet of the Titas's. Due east, the Bay of Quintas, the dried lands of the Dead Flats, and the Scattered Hills are found. The land to the south is mainly concentrated around the Titas Mountains which contain the elven enemy, the Giants of Teeg.
Tower:The Tower of Silver is just that. Stone completely embossed in silver coatings. The mortor is even some sort of magical-silver bond, possibly mithril, but it is unknown of in recent years. This tower was built second to the Tower of Glass when magic was still young. The Father of Magic was known to have been there in the process of coating the stones in the silver. The structure itself has few windows and is quite stuffy, creating great amount humidity. It is so enclosed that many claim the walls within sweat. The highest section of the structure splits into two towers which split into four more peaks, almost as if to resemble the great trees of the forest around it. It stands as high as those same trees at one hundred and fifty feet in height. At it's peaks are copper archways that are rimmed by railings and walkways for viewing. Within it's internal structure are several circular rooms where the few that run the tower have quarters. A three leveled basement holds comfortable eating, conference, and experiment quarters. This tower is most famous for it's natural magics often used by the elven populace. Also known to visit are half-elves, humans, and gnomes which choose to study in the tower for the ancient power it contains.
Tower of Smoke:
Location:This Tower lies far to the south in the colder regions of the Continent of Zoria. On the western portion of the ice continent it sits with no real attraction other than the undead lich that rules and controls it. It lies east of the city of Skeelot where undead beings and the living seem to coincide alike. The lake, Skeelot, also in the west, is disturbingly unfrozen. To the east sit the Mountains of Mist, while in the south, the vast glacial seas roil underneath a thick sheet of ice. In the north, the Mountains of Mist continue until a peninsula splits two bays: The Bay of Quim and Foghorn Bay. The telltale region, although frozen, is full of a magical mist that the Undead King is known to have created. The Lord of Mist is well known to attract young magic-users from all regions to study necromancer magics at this tower.
Tower:This tower is more barren compared to the other four towers. It is built only with a dark grey stone and is wrapped in a white-green moldlike substance. The mold grows mostly at it's base where the mists will enshroud it. Further up and about half the distance, the tower breaks the misty fog layer at some two hundred feet tall. It attracts ice and snow where it is much colder and exposed to weather. The peak of the tower is made of a stone battlement where undead archers spy the world around it somehow. The topmost room of the tower is where the Lord of Mist presides when he is within its confines. Further down the shaft, rooms with little rectangular windows hold the learning magic-users and the teachers of the dark magics that the tower supports. The base of the tower is primarily an old meeting room and a conference hall. Far below the surface of the tower, tunnels, cells, torture chambers, and labs support the magics taught at this tower.
