The families involved in this web site
have special CAUSES & CONCERNS
that they very much support.
These Pages will show specific interests.
Many of our Mothers are supporters of
Mothers Against Drunk Drivers,
Special Children Organizations, and
Organ Donation Programs.
We have been touched
by specific illnesses including
Arnold Chiari Malformation,
Spina Bifida,
Muscular Dystrophy, and
Depression.
Separate pages are being added
for each specific interest topic.
Some information is highly technical
while some is included just to inform.

All of us need something in this world to believe in
and causes that we support.
Below are brief descriptions and links to other sites.

Arnold Chiari Malformation
In easy to understand terms,
this is caused from too much brain
trapped inside a skull
that is too small, resulting
in pinching of the brain stem.
Chiari malformation is a rare
abnormality from birth.
Two parts of the brain,
the brainstem and the cerebellum,
are crowded at the opening
of the spinal canal.
Chiari malformation may be associated
with many other birth defects
including spina bifida.

People with Arnold Chiari Malformation (ACM)
Type I, may have a wide variety of symptoms
related to the brainstem,
cranial nerves,
the cerebellum,
or the spinal cord.

MADD
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is more
than just a bunch of angry moms.
This group includes individuals
just trying to make a difference.
They are determined to stop drunk driving
and to support victims of this violent crime.
MADD was founded by a small group of California
women in 1980 after a 13-year-old-girl
was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
He had been out of jail on bail
for only two days for another hit-and-run
drunk driving crash and had three previous
drunk driving arrests and two convictions.
He was allowed to plea bargain
to vehicular manslaughter.
Although he was sentenced to two years in prison,
the judge allowed the offender to serve time
in work camp and later a halfway house.

NEEDY MEDS
Sometimes families can NOT afford the medicine
that their children need. Many pharmaceutical
manufacturers have special programs to assist
people who can't afford to buy
the drugs they need. One problem is that
it's often hard to learn about these programs.
Each company has its own program with its
special requirements, forms, and procedures.
Actually, some companies
have different programs for different drugs.
There is no central clearinghouse
for obtaining information about these programs
or the drugs themselves.
Most pharmaceutical companies
will send their application
forms only to a physician's office,
and usually only at the request
of the physician or his/her representative.
Some of the companies will send forms
to social workers or to patients,
and a few will forward the forms
to the physician's office
at the request of the social worker or patient.
Policies vary from company to company.
Some companies publicize their programs,
others do everything they can to hide theirs.
Some companies are forthright
with their information;
others don't want to talk about it.

United Network for Organ Sharing
Every 16 minutes, a name is added
to the national organ transplant waiting list.
This site is dedicated to the 60,000 patients
waiting, and the donor families
who have shared the gift of life.

Health Resources & Services Administration
Each day about 55 people receive an organ transplant,
but another 10 people
on the waiting list die
because not enough organs are available.

Very comprehensive site has many

for additional information.

Coalition on Donation
This site even has a store on line
where you can order clothing
and bumper stickers related to organ donations.

Life Connection of Ohio-Toledo
This site has a huge selection of information
as well as links to other sites.

TO REMEMBER ME

Give my sight
to the man who has never seen a sunrise,
a baby's face or
love in the eyes of a woman.
Give my heart to a person
whose own heart has pain.
Give my blood to the teenager
who was pulled from the wreckage of his car,
so that he might live to see his grandchildren play.
Give my kidneys to one
who depends on a machine
to exist from week to week.
Take my bones,
every muscle,
every fiber and nerve in my body and
find a way to make a crippled child walk.
Explore every corner of my brain.
Take my cells, if necessary, and let them grow
so that, someday, a speechless boy
will shout at the crack of a bat
and a deaf girl will hear the sound
of rain against her window.
Burn what is left of me and
scatter the ashes
to the winds to help the flowers grow.
If you must bury something,
let it be my faults,
my weaknesses,
and all prejudice against my fellow man.
Give my sins to the devil.
Give my soul to God.
If, by chance, you wish to remember me,
do it with a kind deed
or word to someone who needs you.
If you do all I have asked,
I will live forever.
