Bill Albert, founder and Fearless Leader of UNIT, issues a statement each month describing his feelings on the state of Doctor Who fandom in Iowa. He calls these messages his "Ramblings".
Here is his message for August 1999
From The 9th Doctor: EXILED IN IOWA Just over a month away!!!! Is anyone as excited about this as I am? We have been working on getting the word around. Heather has contacted: 1 Des Moines SF Society 2 SF League of Iowa Students (U of I) 3 ISU/Ames SF/Fantasy Association 4 DAGOBAH (Davenport Area) 5 Omaha SF Foundation (Their add says they service western Iowa as well as Nebraska.) I have contacted the local stations and papers in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City and IPTV. The DSM Register won't cover it because we are to far out. Anybody have any Cedar Falls connections? There is a very tentative video list on the web site but it looks like the viewing will be more of a voting thing. Anybody who has anything feel free to bring it a long. There are a lot of requests for Curse of the Fatal Death. Anybody have it? People like the idea of starting with episode 1 of Unearthly Child. Watching the new releases of Ice Warriors and the recently recovered Crusade episode are also favorites. Those are episodes that FEW of us have seen so we can alle xperience them for the first time. Some people are bringing snacks or drinks to share. there will also be a few other surprises. *wink* DOCTOR WHO ON IPTV It's been a long time since I've seen Three Doctors and I'm enjoying just how good it is. I am also enjoying seeing William Hartnell in his last appearance. I've always felt the 1st and 2nd Doctors were terribly underrated. I keep being impressed that almost all the characters are getting a good scene at one point or another. I was surprised at just how many 6 part stories the 3rd Doctor has. I did a check of the Programme Guide and found that, surprisingly, the 3rd Doctor had the biggest number of 6 part stories. I thought the 4th Doctor with all his seven series would rule but he was only given 1 per season for the first 5 seasons, Shada was cancelled in the 6th and there were none planned in the 7th. 3rd: 11 2nd: 9 1st: 6 4th: 5 5th-7th: 0 This is an updated list of Doctor Who broadcasts on IPTV for the rest of the Pertwee stories. This is on a two episode a week schedule and doesn't count any possible preemptions during the holidays.
