Throughout much of their lives in Cook County, US12 and US20 are multiplexed. They are joined together from Bellwood south to Hickory Hills, then east through Oak Lawn and the far South Side of Chicago to the Indiana border.
Intersections of US12/20 from northwest to southeast:
US20 joins US12 and US45 from the west, forming a "tripleplex" of Federal Routes heading south
IL56 at its eastern endpoint at Bellwood
I-290 at Bellwood
IL38 by Westchester
US34 at LaGrange
I-55 at Hodgkins
IL171 at Justice
Near Hickory Hills, US12 and US20 finally split off of US45 and head eastward again
I-294 near Burbank
IL43 by Burbank
IL50 at Oak Lawn
IL1 at its northern end in Chicago
I-94 at Chicago (access to/from the north only)*
US12 and US20 join US41 south near Lake Michigan
US12 enters Indiana along with US20 and US41, near the northernmost point of the borderline between Illinois and Indiana, trailing next to the Chicago Skyway (I-90).
US12 and US20 pass through these towns while together in Cook County: Bellwood, Westchester, La Grange, Countryside, Hodgkins, Justice, Hickory Hills, Oak Lawn, Evergreen Park, and Chicago.
*-To access I-94 to/from the south, use Stony Island Ave. To access I-57, use Illinois 1 (Halsted Ave.).
