Illinois 1 is the longest state route in Illinois, stretching from southern Chicago all the way to the Ohio River at Cave-in-Rock, in the southeastern corner of the state. It straddles the Indiana border for just about its entire length.

The southern end of IL1: <>
IL1's southern end is at the Ohio River, at a ferry in Cave-in-Rock. After crossing the ferry, you would end up on Kentucky State Route 91.
IL1 passes through the following towns: Chicago (US12/20, I-57), Riverdale, Harvey (IL83, US6, I-80/294), Homewood, Chicago Heights (US30), Steger, Crete, Goodenow (IL394), Beecher, Grant Park (IL17 East), Momence (IL114), Sun River Terrace (IL17 West), St. Anne, Martinton, Watseka (US24 West),(US24 East), Milford, Wellington, Hoopeston (IL9), Rossville, (US136 West and IL119 East), Danville, South Danville (I-74), Belgium, Westville, Georgetown, Ridge Farm, Chrisman, (US36) Edgar, Paris (IL16 West and US150 East), Oliver, (I-70), Marshall (US40), Gordon (IL33), Flat Rock, Birds, Lawrenceville (US50, Business US50), Allendale, Patton, Mt. Carmel (IL15 both ways), Keensburg, Cowling, Grayville (IL130), (I-64), Calvin, Crossville (IL14 East), Carmi (IL14 West), Norris City (US45), Omaha (IL141), (IL13), Gibsonia, Cave-in-Rock (IL146).
Notable places: The southern end is near Cave-in-Rock State Park, which hosts a cave that pirates would hide inside. These pirates would seize ships heading down the Ohio River.
The northern end of IL1 is an undesirable section of the South Side from what I hear.
