Character Races

Humans: Numerically, the predominant race in Dunedan. There is a wide range of skin tones; though the majority are caucasian, there are enough others to hardly cause a stir.

Elves: Most Elves rarely leave the Western Forest. Some families have chosen to live among the ělesser races,î and are looked down on by other Elves as a result. Kingdom Elves are High Elves (PHB std.); Western Forest Elves are Gray Elves. There are also some Elves among the barbarian tribes in the east (Wild Elves).

Dwarves: All Dwarves encountered in the kingdom are from families stranded when the Dwarfholds in the Grand Mountains were sealed. They still live in underground holds, but none of these match the grandeur of the ancient holds.

All kingdom Dwarves are Hill Dwarves.

Halflings: Halflings are highly adaptable. Rather than establish a homeland of their own, halflings simply live with or near one of the other races. Their adaptability has given rise to three distinct "subraces". The Lightfoots (Lightfeet?) are found among Humans (andthus are the most numerous). Tallfellows are found among Elves (and are among the few allowed to enter the Western Forest). The halflings living with Dwarves or Gnomes are called Deep Halflings or Stouts. In addition, the rare halfling has been encountered among the barbarian tribes, though the others don't like to talk about these so-called "lost halflings".

Half-Elves: Roughly 75% of Half-Elves were raised by their Human parent. Those raised among Elves that choose to leave the Forest are often treated with suspicion by the Forest Elves.

Gnomes: The Gnomes were barely affected by the cataclysm--they are just too light-hearted to let it get to them. As a race, Gnomes tend toward alchemical or mechanical pursuits. There is an extended clan living on the western seacliffs; these Gnomes do not gain the standard bonuses against kobolds, goblinoids and giants. Instead, they gain a +1 racial attack bonus and +3 racial dodge bonus against Kuo-Toa and Sahuagin. They also gain a +3 racial bonus to Swim checks.

Half-Orcs: Half-Orcs are rare in Dunedan. Orcs are so hated that anyone who even resembles one is often attacked on sight.
