100 Percent Trustworthy

Have faith-
easy to say, hard to do.

I convince myself that I have lots of faith, until
things go
wrong. Then
suddenly I
panic.

Through my
words and
actions, I
react to life
like those
who don't
believe in
God. I
complain
and worry;
I'm terrified
about the
future.

Could it be
that I do
have faith
- but not
in God?
Could the
problem be
that I have
faith in
my abilites
my friends
my family
my church
my
computer
my watch
in things that
aren't always as reliable
as they
seem?

Having faith
is knowing
that nothing
created by
God or
invented by
people is
100 percent
trustworthy.
Only God is.

When I hold
on to God
tighter than
to anything
else, I begin
to discover
the secret
of what it
means to
have faith.

Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."-Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)
The Sacred Scriptures

Let no day pass by without reading some portion of the Sacred Scriptures and giving some spance to meditation; for nothing feeds the soul so well as those sacred studies do.

The Epistle of Theonas

At any price, give me the book of God! Here is knowledge enough for me. In God's presence I open, I read this book, for this end: to find the way to heaven.

John Wesley (1703-1791)
Sermons on Several Occasions

Table for Two by Kirsten Burgess

He sits by himself at a table for two. The uniformed waiter returns to his side and asks, "Would you like to go ahead and order, sir?" The man has, after all, been waiting since seven o'clock--almost half an hour.

"No, thank you," the man smiles. "I'll wait for her a while longer. How about some more coffee?"

"Certainly, sir."

The man sits, his clear blue eyes gazing straight through the flowered centerpiece. He fingers his napkin, allowing the sounds of light chatter, tinkling silverware, and mellow music to fill his mind. He is dressed in a sport coat and tie. His dark brown hair is neatly combed, but one stray lock insists on dropping to his forehead. The scent of his cologne adds to his clean-cut image. He is dressed up enough to make a companion feel important, respected, loved. Yet he is not so formal as to make one uncomfortable. It seems that he has taken every precaution to make others feel at ease with him. Read the rest

Senate Prayer
An interesting prayer given in Kansas at the opening session of their Senate caused quite a stir. It seems prayer still upsets some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We confess that.

"We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it pluralism;
We have worshipped other gods and called it multiculturalism;
We have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle;
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery;
We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare;
We have killed our unborn and called it choice;
We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable;
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem;
We have abused power and called it politics;
We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition;
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression;
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of Your will, we ask it in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen"

The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa, and Korea. Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on "The Rest of the Story" on the radio and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired. With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called one nation under God.

Even when carrying out needful tasks, keep meditating inwardly and pryaing. Thus you can grasp the depths of divine Scripture and the power hidden in it, and "pray without ceasing."
