GORDON WITTY
Combining talent, hard work, and almost unlimited devotion to his art is what earned Gordon Witty his Music Legend status at the Webster County Opry. What Gordon portrays in a song is the "I understand, I have felt that way" kind of feeling and emotion. The kind that makes fellow Opry stars, listeners and audience members agree with him. Gordon, an Opry charter member, has been wowing audiences since the first time gracing the stage of the Opry. The luck of a great performer was with Gordon when he was asked to join the Opry stage. Gordon Witty is truly an inspiration to a whole new generation of budding country music performers. While his music is rooted in traditional country and he remains deeply commited to the form, his willingness to draw from other performers have made hime not only accessible to fans but to those of other music qualites. While at the Opry he sometimes teams up with harmonica player Harvey Wilkersen and their rich duet performance is enough to raise the very hairs on your back. Few performers in any field of entertainment find a lifetime of success and the respect and adoration of their peers. Some reach the heights of stardom but few truly become the legend and great man that Gordon Witty has. Gordon Witty has attained these ultimates as one of the best Opry entertainers. In 1965, Gordon along with his wife Dorothy moved to Rogersville, Missouri and in April of 1997 Gordon found a new home once again The Webster County Opry. And the two are a perfect match. His music has defintely influenced some of the Opry's upcoming young stars. Gordon is a great man and a true employer of such a fine art. His help is what helps make the Opry come off smooth on any given Opry night.
