Few updates until after May 7th. Bear with me.
Monday, January 12th, 2004
Okay, so I gave up on this page for a while, but I've brought most of the political pages up to date now, and will keep them updated.
My hitbox went to a pay-only service so I said forget it, no way I'm doing that.
Tuesday, June 24th
More updates than I've been listing on here. I'm doing some work on the governor and senate races today, and I've already updated the main page to be more blue and less black.
Still have to work on the movies.
Google has me back at full strength after a brief few weeks of neglect. I also got a prominent mention on the community weblog Metafilter; they sent over 200 folks my way. I've almost made my way into Alexa.com's top 1,000,000 sites :)
Monday, May 26th (Memorial Day)
Things are back in swing here at Johnny Z's Place. I've revamped the Governor 2004 page and updated the Senate page. Kentucky held their primaries so I updated the 2003 Election page, and up next is the House page.
I have SEVERAL movies backed up waiting to be reviewed; I actually have the reviews, just have to put them out here. Jackie Chan's getting his own page; sorry, insurance movies just had to go.
Google screwed me over recently by skipping over my Senate page on their last run-through, but what can you do?
Friday, April 11th
Okay, so I haven't been updating the updates page. Kind of embarassing, that. But the page is in a sort of lull for the next month; things will pick up after mid-May. I will be keeping the Senate Races and Charlotte Politics and Election 2003 pages fairly current, as well as adding the occasional movie review. Sandra Bullock's early movie Fire in the Amazon, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Delta Force, and the Korean movie Shiri are up next, although I still have to add my review of The Natural.
Traffic to the site continues to be healthy at between 35-50 visitors a day, mainly from search engines, some from freerepublic.com and occasional visitors from the Ring of Conservative Sites and the Republican Webring. There are even a couple folks who have Johnny Z's Place bookmarked, I believe . . .
Tuesday, February 11th
Updates to the politics pages covering the US Senate (the new format is up) and the governors races.
Sunday, February 9th
I got 500 hits Tuesday alone from a link discussing Microsoft's home of the future, including the bathroom of the future; some folks seemed to think my explanation of The Three Shells was relevant, and I agree. Happy to help! I'm very close to rolling out a new US Senate page, and I finally put together the personal pages directory; they are at /mo/zdawg/i/, though I'm afraid some of my links may be a little behind. I also added to the movie reviews I have up, with Dr. No and Once Upon A Time In China.
Sunday, February 2nd
Holy smokes, there have been some big happenings lately!!! Google crawled my page on and my number of visitors each day tripled! I'm afraid I've just been adding and updating little things here and there and haven't had time to detail all the updates, but among other things the State Legislatures page is up and running strong. I have also updated the politics pages Election 2003, US Senate, and US House pages. I hope to add 5-10 movie reviews this week, as the movie section has been a bit neglected, I'm afraid.
Thursday, January 16th
Added some great content to the previously barren Khipu page.
Wednesday, January 15th
Revamped the US House Competitive Races page, and added Sue Myrick to the Charlotte page. Also added A Fly's Life, Blockhead's inspired treatise on ECAC Hockey schools.
Tuesday, January 14th
Whew, I've been busy! Election pages are updated, including a snazzy one on Charlotte politics, as well as actual content for the first time on my Catholic novels page. I introduced new, easier-to-read formatting to the election pages, and I'm still converting some of that over. Google still hasn't come by but is likely to in the next few days, I think, although there's always the possibility they're skipping me this month. I'm actual grateful for the delay, since I get to have things all spiffy for when it crawls through.
Wednesday, January 8th
Am impatiently waiting for Google to crawl my page again -- I have made so many changes over the past month . . . including adding a Site Map today! And I started work on the Charlotte politics page. Eh, it still needs work.
Tuesday, January 7th
Added a review of Speechless plus one for You've Got Mail. Mega updates to various election 2004 pages.
Saturday, January 5th
New page previewing the most competitive US House races shaping up for 2004. Also added movie review of Il Postino and Waking Ned Devine.
New Years Day
More movie reviews: Armageddon, Moonraker, and The Evil Dead.
Tuesday, December 31st
Added Jackie Chan's Project A, The 13th Warrior, and Blade Runner & Thirteen Ghosts; polished up movie index. I now have 52 movie reviews up, with many more in the pipeline. Updated the Election 2003 page to reflect a Mississippi state senator's switch to the GOP.
Sunday, December 29th
Added Kiss of the Dragon and Twin Dragons to the martial arts page.
Saturday, December 28th
Applied to join the Ring of Republican websites . . . and was accepted! Excellent . . . Put some more information on the Election 2003 page where the webring link now resides. Added reviews of "10" with (Republican) Bo Derek and Dudley Moore as well as "True Lies" with Arnold Schwarzenegger, both on the Republican movie review page.
Friday, December 27th
Happy Boxing Day (well, yesterday)! Yep.com ranking is still heading onward and upward (top 16,000). Today has set a site record for most new visitors (thirteen) and most unique visits (fifteen) in a day. I think all the links on the site work now [crossing fingers]. It's about time. Revamped a couple pages, including starting one for foreign films. That should be the last page I add for a while -- I'll be concentrating on adding movie reviews to existing pages, as some are rather skimpy. Added a locus for personal pages on this site; it'll probably get its own sub-directory some day.
Sunday, December 22nd
Merry Christmas! Added reviews for Rookie of the Year, Father of the Bride, and Murder by Numbers. Fixed a couple broken links. Started the pages for Republican and insurance movies, but there's not much there yet. Major facelift for the index of movie reviews.
Friday, December 20th
This site is now in the top 18,000, and among the top 250 movie sites. Updated the 2004 Election page to reflect Lisa Murkowski as the new senator from Alaska and briefly summarized the governors picture. Linked a couple of reviews of J. R. R. Tolkien's and Peter Jackson's The Two Towers.
Friday, December 13th
This site is now in the top 20,000, up from top 24,000 recently. Top 20k is still a dubious distinction, I admit. Updates: new Election 2003 page, updated Election 2004 page.
Wednesday, December 11th
Would just like to note that this site has moved into the top 300 movie sites on the internet, courtesy of Google and Yahoo, which love it to death. For updates, I started this page . . . and that's about it. There are unfortunately some broken links running around, and a lot of "you can't get there from here" situations, but I promise to have them cleared up by this weekend.
Tuesday, December 10th
Retroactive update notice: added "Die Another Day" and "Tomorrow Never Dies" reviews to James Bond movie reviews. Added an comprehensive but brief summary of the 2004 election here.
