She was valedictorian of East Lansing High School, 1922, where she met her future husband playing the lead opposite him in a play. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Michigan Agricultural College (magna cum laude) 1926 (majored in textile chemistry; minored in music) in the year when it was to change its name, today known as Michigan State University. During World War II, she and her husband ran "The Pup Shop," a pet store selling dogs that they raised at a home kennel. After the death of her husband, she taught 3rd grade at Stiles School of The Avondale Schools in Michigan and retired in 1972. She was also an accomplished amateur musician. She died of a brain tumor. She is buried with her husband in Mt. Avon Cemetery, Rochester, Michigan.
