Impulse is a band from the Netherlands that was formed in 2008, and 'Dream of the faith' is their self-released full-length debut. They're a female fronted band, and their style is melodic symphonic/gothic/power metal that will appeal to a wide range of female fronted metal fans.
Vocally, Monique Terhoeve reminds me a lot of Liv Kristine (Leaves' Eyes), though Monique's voice is perhaps just a little bit more high-pitched and not quite as soft as Liv's. As for the band in general, there are a lot of comparisons that have jumped out at me, and they would be Edenbridge, Visions of Atlantis, Nightwish, Leaves' Eyes, Enter Twilight, Amazon, Bare Infinity, Midnattsol, Mena Brinno, and there are also influences from bands like Within Temptation, Ansoticca, Elis, Delain, and so on.
The CD could've used a little better production, but the songs surprised me with how good they are - especially considering how massive the female fronted metal scene is these days. One of my favorite songs is track 4 "All shall fade", which is a beautiful slow song, but really, all of the songs are well done and most are quite upbeat, as this is far from a boring CD. So this is a promising and competitive band with all of the ingredients in place, and fans of female fronted metal definitely need to check it out.
