LATEST UPDATE: 2-5-20

Name: Sean Michael Dudley

Birthday: July, 1977 (RIP July, 2019)

Current location: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Current occupation: Image operator/Data entry analyst.

Hobbies: Listening to metal, video games, reading, creative writing, NFL and Aussie rules football, baseball (Chelsea Dolphins), homeopathy, astrology, crystals and website design.

Favorite books: Lord of the Rings Trilogy, NFL magazines and collections of various heavy metal books.

Favorite movies: Star Wars (all), Rocky (all), most Adam Sandler movies, Shawshank Redemption and Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Words that describe me: Intelligent, creative and passionate.

Instrumental talents: Played drums since I was 14, but haven't played them much since I finished secondry school.

Past and present band experience: Just me playing the drums jamming with a friend who played bass guitar.

Favorite music listening location and why: Probably the car because I have a kick-ass stereo system and I can play it as loud as I want.

How I got into metal: Through my older brother, but he didn't hand me down anything. My room was next to his and I could hear the music coming from his room. Stuff like early Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, Testament, etc. Originally I hated that music, but one day when my brother was out, I took one of his tapes and played it. It was Metallica's 'And justice for all'. I was hooked after that.

Most influential bands: Metallica, Anthrax, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Iron Maiden, Pantera and Biohazard.

Favorite/most memorable concerts: Pantera in 1996, Metallica in 1997 & 2010 (with Fear Factory and Sword), AC/DC in 2001 & 2010, Nightwish in 2005 & 2008, Dragonforce in 2006, Iron Maiden in 2008 & 2011, Helloween in 2008, Judas Priest in 2008, Edguy in 2010 and Airbourne in 2010.

Genre likes: Power metal, gothic metal, heavy/melodic metal, symphonic metal, some thrash and some doom.

Genre dislikes: Black metal, folk metal, most death metal and some progressive metal.

Thoughts on the metal genres:
Black metal: Just not my thing. Can't understand what they're saying, I dont share the same feelings and morals that those bands have. Too full on for me.
Death metal: Some bands are OK, I can listen to some and be able to bear it. Again, it's not being able to understand what they are saying.
Doom metal: My favourite doom metal band is Novembers Doom, because they play a little faster than the traditional very slow doom metal. Early My Dying Bride type style can be boring cause it's just too slow. I think you have to be in the mood to listen to doom metal.
Folk metal: Folk metal can be enjoyable, the vast array of different instruments used by folk metal bands makes it interesting. But most of it just isn't my cup of tea unfortunately.
Gothic metal: One of my favourite genres. The depressive sounds, the sad lyrics all appeal to me. Bands such as Entwine, Charon, Poisonblack, Within Temptation, Flowing Tears, For My Pain, Sentenced, etc, are all my favourites.
Heavy/melodic metal: The genre which started my metal journey all those years ago. One of the greatest genres of metal there is. I'll always be thankful for straight out, in your face heavy metal.
Power metal: The cream of the crop for me. Nothing beats power metal. The genre is so huge that sub-genres of power metal are now forming. It's a vast genre with many different styles, all under the power metal name.
Progressive metal: Progressive metal is too technical for me. I feel inferior when I listen to it. But some bands I can enjoy, such as Dream Theater.
Symphonic metal: Another great genre, which I think is a combination of gothic, power and melodic metal. Nightwish, Epica and Edenbridge fit nicely into this genre.
Thrash metal: A dying genre, in my opinion. I enjoyed thrash metal when I first got into metal, but now have moved away from the genre. There are a lot of good bands still flying the flag for this style, such as Slayer, Exodis and Kreator.

Favorite musicians: Steve Harris, Gus G., Herman Li, Dave Lombardo, Axel Rudi Pell, Tuomas Holopainen, Randy Black and Jon Schaffer.

Favorite vocalists: Ralf Scheepers, Tim Owens, Piet Sielck, Tarja Turunen, Tobias Sammet, Eric Adams and Johnny Gioeli.

Favorite CD covers: Iron Maiden's 'Seventh son of a seventh son' and 'Powerslave'. Axel Rudi Pell's cd covers are all pretty good.

Favorite bands: Primal Fear, Iron Savior, Iron Maiden, Nightwish, Edguy, Iced Earth, Stratovarius, Entwine, Gamma Ray, Sentenced, Poisonblack, Axel Rudi Pell, Sonata Arctica, Judas Priest, HammerFall and many more.

Favorite CDs: All the bands listed above are my favourites. Way too many to mention.

CDs that are overrated: Elvenking 'The winter wake'. I dont think it's as good as what people say.

CDs that are underrated: Iced Earth 'The glorious burden' and Iron Maiden 'Virtual XI'. Both excellent CDs that deserve more praise.

Most prized metal posession: I dont have one... yet.

Reasons I joined the Metal CD Ratings site: So the world can read my opinions on metal so that they are better informed.

Advantages to being a reviewer on the Metal CD Ratings site: It seems more laid back and easy going. Fun.

Disadvantages to being a reviewer on the Metal CD Ratings site: If there were I wouldn't be here.

Bands I would like to see in concert: Primal Fear, Iced Earth, Iron Savior, Sepultura, Poisonblack, Manowar, Mystic Prophecy and Hammerfall.

People I would like to meet: Jon Schaffer, Tobias Sammet and Bruce Dickinson.

What I would like to see for the future of metal: Metal is at its strongest point right now. Thousands of bands out there just waiting to be found. It's an endless pool of talent that deserves more credit. For the future, I want it to be just like it is now. Metal will never die!
