TOAST OF NEW YORK TOASTMASTER SPECIALS Updated 11/23/02
TOASTMASTER'S CHOICE: For three years I have been putting together my favorite and most outrageous tracks into what I hope are entertaining compilations that I hand out at Holiday time. They're Christmas tchotchkes for my friends and members of the toasting community, but there's not a lot of Christmas content, however. In any case, if you wanna check them out, the info is as follows:

XMAS SCREAMING - THE BEST OF TOAST 2000
Now this particular disc (from the collection of The Great John L)
HAPPY HOLIDAZE: BIG JOHN'S CHRISTMAS SPECIALS
consists almost entirely of seasonal material! It could be called "Christmas At 78 RPM!"
WILSCI SPECIALS:
Some compilation projects that are very near and dear to my heart - Most of an Ethnically Specific Nature:
the legendary SHANGHAI-DE-HO! Those who know the Toastmaster know that he is extremely fond of concept-oriented compilations, especially with regards to ethnic and exotic sounding vintage jazz and pop.

THE REDSKI BLUES - SONGS FOR SOMBER SLOVACS
Another wacky Wilsci compilation, I managed to put together 80 minutes of jazz and pop songs on the theme of Russia (and satellite states). Hear Sinatra and Jimmy Durante singing in Russian and Russki excerpts from the Yiddish Swing Hour. Fun stuff.
THE AFRO - SEMITIC ALLIANCE
|
||
A very personal project indeed: VOLUMES ONE & TWO. Volume One is especially interesting: I call it THE AFRO-SEMITIC ALLIANCE, because it consists mostly of the great Black entertainers doing traditional Yiddish songs. |

A NEW ONE FROM WILLSCI

VARIATIONS ON A CLASSIC SCORE: I put this one together mostly from the collection of Father Knick. It's all manner of dance bands and vocalists doing different versions of the classic Arlen-Harburg score to THE WIZARD OF OZ, mostly but not all from 1939, you'll hear Glenn Miller, Vincent Lopez, Ralph Blane (from Liberty Music Shop), plus the complete Decca WIZARD album by Victor Young and The Ken Darby Singers, plus Shorty Rogers's wonderful modern-jazz latin big band version, The Wizard Of Oz suite, plus Abbey Lincoln, Ella Fitzgerald - not to mention three very unusual variations on "Rainbow" by Judy Garland, including the only known occasion in which she sings the verse. In all, a total panoply of the Wonderful World Of Oz. |
