TOAST OF NEW YORK

U.S. DANCE BANDS - COMPLETE SETS

Updated 11/23/02

TED WEEMS AND HIS ORCHESTRA

I can't for the life of me figure why we (I?) didn't put this up here on the website earlier:

 THE COMPLETE TED WEEMS SERIES:

This is our complete nine-disc series, consisting of all of the band's pre-war recordings, everything from 1923 to 1941 - years and years in the making. And Parker Gibbs too! Oh the "heartaches" that went into this project!

A TOAST MASTERPIECE

THE ROGER WOLFE KAHN-NECTION :

Roger Wolfe Kahn

Waterman reports: the great, illustrious, prolific, talented wonderboy, that scrawny child prodigy, son of millionaire Otto Kahn, born with a silver stylus in his mouth in Morristown, New Jersey, has finally gotten his due, forty years after his death.

ISHAM JONES

ISHAM JONES AND HIS ORCHESTRA - 1926

ISHAM JONES:

Waterman has a two CD set of  great

Isham Jones on Decca

sessions while Nestor offers an assortement of

Ish: 1920-1926.

(Waterman has already done the Complete Isham Jones Victors in four volumes, a great set, if you don't have 'em. See below. And while we're at it, here's a classic piece of Isham Jones sheet music for you to feast your eyes on!)

Waterman Levinson presents four volumes of

ISHAM JONES ON VICTOR, 1932-1934

THE GREAT JOE HAYMES AND HIS ORCHESTRA

It's here - no hyperbole needed :

THE COMPLETE JOE HAYMES

Nine CDs to positively die for. And now, to go along with the above, two additional volumes of

JOE HAYMES on THESAURUS TRANSCRIPTIONS

Oh yes!

BENNY GOODMAN SEXTET

WILL ANY COMMERCIAL LABEL ASSEMBLE A GOODMAN SERIES THIS COMPREHENSIVELY COMPLETE? I DON'T THINK SO! WATERMAN PRESENTS:

THE COMPLETE BENNY GOODMAN SEXTET, 1939-1946 SERIES:

Benny who? Thanks to the legendary Waterman once again - six volumes of every take by the Goodman small groups in the classic Red Columbia period. Lots of juicy alternates - all the stars are here, Cootie, Christian. Oh man, it's a gasser! Mosaic Records, are you paying attention?

OHMAN AND ARDEN

Here's a biggie:

PHIL OHMAN AND VICTOR ARDEN: THE COMPLETE DANCE BAND RECORDINGS

Rae Bourbon (Dave Carey) put this together primarily from the collections of Father Knick and Peter Mintun. It's everything listed in Rust. Like I say, this is all the dance tracks, NOT the piano solos and duos that don't have a band on them, maybe someday we'll do those on a supplemental disc or two. However, thanks to Peter, we were able to get quite a few transcription tracks from the mid-'30s by A and O, together and individually. Take a look!

 PIRON ORCHESTRA

 THE COMPLETE PIRON

This is a very personal project for me - my father made a point of collecting all the original A J Piron Orchestra 78s, and they were pretty much the last 78s in his collection at the time he died four years ago. Anyhow, John has toasted them for us and they sound great, this was really a wonderful band.

A J Piron Orchestra

 RICHARD HIMBER

THE COMPLETE RICHARD HIMBER

in seven volumes!

From The Essex House Hotel in New York City...

A project we're particularly proud of...the restoration of a  neglected dance band of the 1930's.

TOM COAKLEY

TOM COAKLEY:

Two discs of transcriptions and one of the complete commercial recordings.

The unforgettable sound of the popular West Coast bandleader. Includes rare studio recordings and live broadcast transcriptions. With Tony Martin, Carl Ravazza, Armand Camgros and Kay Thompson.

THE COMPLETE TED LEWIS, 1925-1934

This is Waterman's long-awaited masterpiece, a seven CD set, containing everything by the Ted Lewis band from the first electric session, continuing through all the electric Columbias and all of the 1934 Deccas. It's just about the greatest thing anyone in the group has ever done!

GEORGE OLSEN AND HIS MUSIC

THE COMPLETE GEORGE OLSEN AND HIS MUSIC - VICTOR SESSIONS + BLUE COLUMBIAS AND MORE

Complete recordings, 1924 - 1933, comprised of ten discs, all of which are 80 minutes long + a bonus dsic!

This is the masterpiece of the toast group so far, toasted by the Great John L with the help of Jeff Healey, Hutch, and others! The last disc includes a few bonus items, such as soundtracks and airchecks! An absolute must!

And if that wasn't enough:

GENE RODEMICH AND HIS ORCHESTRA, THE COMPLETE BRUNSWICK RECORDINGS (1919-1926) -

This four disc set was compiled by Bob Lang and Hope Conley Lang, daughter of Rodemich's trombonist, Larry Conley. If you don't know this band, you should, it's a first rate snappy peppy dance band of the acoustic era, and many of the tracks feature FRANK TRUMBAUER! There are also rare alternate takes and very informative track annotations.

JOHNNY HAMP AND HIS KENTUCKY SERENADERS

At long last: John Leifert and Jeff Healey present the nearly COMPLETE

JOHNNY HAMP

in four volumes (missing only one super-rare HMV and one even rare Timely Tunes).

JOE SANDERS

JOE SANDERS AND HIS ORCHESTRA:

complete Deccas plus

GEMS OF 1935 AND 1936

IRVING AARONSON

THE MOST OF IRV AARONSON
(We have the Edison and all the Victors complete, but are still missing some Brunswicks, Vocalions & Columbias)

THE COMPLETE BENNY GOODMAN 1933-1935 ON COLUMBIA & ARC

Two volumes of the regular BG Orch titles from these years, plus a third "bonus" disc containing miscellaneous BG-led sessions 1931-'35, featuring lots of Teagarden (Charleston Chasers, Tea Orch w/BG, Lang-Venuti.

All of this stuff has been on commercial CDs, such as Classics, but in inferior sound. Dan's job is the best that I've heard and will last us until John R T finishes his early BG project, which probably will not be for many years to come.

[Another example of "Better Living Through Toast!"]

DORSEY BROTHERS

COMPLETE DORSEY BROS. ON DECCA

1934-'35 In four great volumes, ALL of which are now ready!

Our first big release of Spring 2001: Jimbo Baldwin presents

THE COMPLETE BROADWAY BELLHOPS

This is as complete a representation of this Sam Lanin group, which recorded for Harmony between 1926 and 1928, as we are likely to get (we're missing only a couple of alternates listed in Rust that may or may not actually exist). Lots of hot content, thanks to the usual Lanin studio regulars - not the least of which is RED NICHOLS!

THE VIRGINIANS

A new goodie from JIMBO THE COMPLETE VIRGINIANS A new three volume accounting of their complete output, 1922-1924 - a really lively, swinging group!

RAYMOND PAIGE AND HIS ORCHESTRA: complete Victors plus GEMS OF 1934

Father Vincent Fitzpatrick presents his masterpiece:

BF GOODRICH featuring THE SILVER MASKED TENOR!

Hey! It's not Sonny! It's not Henry! It's not Howard! It's THE MEGA COMPLETE TODD ROLLINS! two volumes of great hot dance music from 1934-1935!

BOB CHESTER

BOB CHESTER: Revised and completed - the Bluebirds anyhow. We're still missing lots of of the postwar items, but it's a great series and a great band nonetheless.

PAUL PENDARVIS AND HIS ORCHESTRA: complete recordings & rare transcriptions, 1934-'35

The long-awaited - THE COMPLETE JOHNNY GREEN All the commercial recordings by this remarkable composer, pianist and bandleader - containing ALL of his remarkable British recordings and tons of stuff not in any of the Rust books. This is one of the toast group's great accomplishments, thanks to Father Knick and Peter M.
