While serving his time in a minimum security prison, Sideshow Bob becomes obsessed by TV's detrimental effect on society. During work detail at an Air Force base, he sneaks away and gains access to a restricted hangar that stores nuclear materials. Meanwhile, the Simpsons travel to the base to watch an airshow. During the show, Bob appears on a gigantic monitor and threatens to detonate a nuclear bomb unless all television is abolished in Springfield. In the ensuing panic, Bart and Lisa are separated from their parents. In response to Bob's threat, Mayor Quimby shuts down Springfield's TV stations, but Krusty, sensing a ratings windfall, broadcasts his show from a civil defense shack. Outraged, Bob stes off the bomb, but the antique weapon fails to explode. As military forces close in on him, Bob kidnaps Bart and commandeers the Wright Brothers' plane, on loan from the Smithsonian, towards Krusty's makeshift studio on a kamikaze mission. The slow-moving craft bouces harmlessly off the shack's roof, and Bob is taken into custody. |
