Sillabub, portrayed in London as Jemima, is considered to be the youngest
kitten. Like the other kittens, such as Victoria
and Etcetera, she is mostly seen kneeling or
crawling around the stage and other cats. Sillabub sings parts in Memory,
and the actress who plays her usually has a beautiful, high voice. Along
with Victoria, Sillabub helps to welcome Grizabella
back into the tribe when the others won't accept her. Her name is a mixture
of "silly" and "Beezlebub" which means "the devil".
So, naturally, Jemima (which means "little dove") in the London
cast is usually more innocent and gentle than Sillabub in the Broadway
cast, who is more mischievous and troublesome. Like most of the queens
and female kittens, Sillabub hangs all over Rum
Tum Tugger whenever he appears. In some casts, you can see her off
to the side with Alonzo whenever Cassandra
isn't around. In other casts she's seen with Tumblebrutus
or Pouncival. Some think she would be a perfectly cute with Mistoffelees.
It all depends on the cast you see and what you interpret.
