FROM THE PRESIDENT
Welcome to October, which means that our Friday Night Pointscore is
only a few weeks away. Registration night is on Friday 20th October,
starting at 6.00 p.m. with a sausage sizzle. Swimming will commence
the following week. A reminder that the new swimming year commences
on the 1st October 2000 and ends 30th September 2001. This means that
club fees are now due.
This also means that new
club captains are elected and this has been done. Congratulations to
Clinton Parsons and Ellen Wooton as they have been elected as Club Captains
for the 2000-01 season.
Saturday morning Free learn-to-swim classes will commence on Saturday
the 4th November, with Brod Crieghton as our learn-to-swim co-ordinator
for this year. Any person who would be available to help with the learn-to-swim
would be most welcome.
The club will be having a chocolate drive as one of our fundraisers,
and hopefully every family will take at least one box.
VALE: Tom Sullivan. As most
of you would know by now, Life Member and Learn-to-swim coordinator,
Tom Sullivan passed away last month. Tom has been with the club for
many years and has put countless hours into the club's learn-to-swim
classes and many other club activities. Our sympathy goes to Wendy and
family. Tom will be sadly missed by us all.

GOSSIP GALORE
AN OLYMPIC REPORT FROM A VOLUNTEER
by Kieran Sernig
As the "best games ever" came to an end, the great memories will always
be with us. The best memories for some will be the parties of the ceremonies,
or the Ozzy P.B of 58 medals. But for me it was knowing I was one of
47000 volunteers behind the scenes, pulling it all together.
It was great walking around the Olympic site in uniform, because almost
everyone you see would nod and say G'day. All the bright colours of
flags and mascots really brightens up your day. The only down points
were getting up at 4 a.m. almost every morning and working eight hour
long shifts each day, but in the end, it was all worth it.
When I was walking around the pool, it was an inspiration to see the
swimmers, divers and water polo teams up close and in the flesh, saying
hi and when they were finished, it was exciting to go up and talk to
them all and shake their hands.
Many people say that the volunteers get nothing, but I think that we
were the lucky ones - watching events, meeting the athletes and world
wide recognition.
I loved working at the Olympics and I think everyone else did too.
MY OLYMPIC EXPERIENCE
By Faye Rowles
Over the last few months there has been many memorable experiences that
I have experienced whilst working at Sydney Olympic Park and the Athletes
Village. Here are just a few:
· A few days before the opening ceremony, we were told that we would
have to be out of SIAC by 9.30pm, as the horses would be coming up Olympic
Drive. I was last out and I was walking up Olympic Drive all by myself
when the song 'Wind beneath my wings" came out of the top of the Stadium.
It was the most exciting and weird feeling.
· After the 1500m mens final, Grant Hackett was brought into our room
by the media rep, Ian Hanson, and we had our photos taken with him.
I didn't realise how tall he was.
· I had the good fortune to go to the rehearsal, opening and closing
ceremonies, which were just out of this world.
· The welcoming ceremonies at the village were great with the school
children singing. I only managed, with my workload, to see about 5 minutes
of one, but it was fantastic.
· Everyone was so happy and very pleased to be at the Olympics.
· The after party at the Brewery, Novotel, Homebush, with Tommo with
an eski on his head.
· The Women's Waterpolo match with Australia winning the Gold medal
in the last second!
· The Manager of the Netherlands Swim team told us that he had been
to 5 Olympic Games and that we had the best Sports Info yet!
