AUGUST 2001

Our Sponsors: & Dapto Branch Direct enquiries: 42611942

Welcome to the August edition of the newsletter. News items may be submitted to Sandi Wooton by phone (42214800) or email (sandi_wooton@uow.edu.au). We are located on the internet at: http://daptoswimclub.cjb.net
FROM THE PRESIDENT
Congratulations to all of our swimmers who competed at the NSW Country Short Course Swimming Championship recently. Unfortunately I have not seen all of the results, but I have heard that a number of good swims were achieved. Well done to Ellen Wooton, gaining 6 finalist ribbons, narrowly missing a bronze medal, Clinton Parsons, finalist ribbon in the 100m breaststroke and Kaine Love winning a bronze medal in the Open 50m freestyle and 3 other finalist ribbons.

Hopefully by now, the pool heating will be well under way (well behind schedule though). If the Council's time line runs on time, we should be in the water late November. This will mean that our Friday Night Pointscore will be starting late this year and the Club Championships will also be held later than usual. There will be more news as that date gets closer.

COACH'S CORNER
Swimmer of the Month:

Mathew Carrick - Swimmer of the Month August 2001
Mathew Carrick.
Great training Mat! Keep up the good work.

Training
There are many swimmers not ready for training at their allotted timeslot, mainly Dolphins, Juniors & Seniors. Swimmers: make sure you are on pool deck & ready to start training on time!
Gym
Due to lack of commitment from athletes, Friday afternoon gym has been cancelled. For the committed few there is a water workout available.
Swim Meets
There are still a number of swimmers not wearing team gear. You do not play netball or soccer & wear whatever you like. Have some pride in your club & become a part of a team.
Dapto Pool Heating & Reopening Update
The Reopening of Dapto Pool is scheduled for the 18th November. This will change our summer training format, so I will be having a meeting at the end of August to discuss summer programs. It would be appreciated if all parents could attend: Wednesday 29th August, Dapto Club Room, 7:00 p.m.

GOSSIP GALORE
Country Championships - Parents Report
The drive up to Toronto took anywhere between 2 1/2hrs to 4 1/2hrs depending on how late you left Wollongong. For the Glass family, they decided to
visit every suburb of Sydney, and yes, got every red light! So after many renditions of 100 green bottles we finally arrived at the hotel with a mighty thirst.
We all met up at the Ex-Services club for a meal on the Friday night, and to our delight the meals were lovely and plentiful. During dinner we noticed
a definite disappearance of our men folk, they were later found huddled around a t.v. set watching the test. So we left them there and headed off to
the hotel for a quite night-cap.
We were all up nice and early the next morning, rearing to go to the pool. The pool complex can only be described as being held in someone's bathroom,
talk about nice and squeezy! We were sitting on scaffolding which was erected high and looking down on the pool, you definitely got a great look at their tumble turns, and sometimes felt them too.
Saturday finished quite early, so we all ventured back to the hotel, where Ros put on a lovely spread of her famous dip, if it was then, it certainly is now, and munchies. It's always nice when you have these unexpected few hours during the day to sit around and catch up with everyone, whilst the kids had fun playing Frisbee with uncle Phil.
Saturday evening was spent overlooking the lake at the Yacht Club, and once again the meals were delicious. We later adjourned to Phil and Kate's room to enjoy a quiet one before retiring for the evening. We would all like to thank Kevin and his lovely assistant Katie for the undercover puppet show. We all laughed so much we lost our pants - Oh no!, Kevin lost his, that's right! So after many, many laughs we all headed off to bed.
I would personally like to thank Steve for his early morning wake-up call, even though we had no one swimming that morning, but hey! that's the kind of
great guy he is. So as everyone walked down to the pool for yet another day of swimming, we ventured off home, this time making it in 2 1/2hrs. I guess
once again we can chalk it up to another great weekend away, can't wait for the next one.
