Hell of a Time!
Dead, exhaustion, pain, hurting, tired, out of breath…put these words together and there you have it, The Threadbo Alpine Training Camp!
After 5 days of intensive training, I was aching from head to toe. Most of the daily
schedules went like this:
* 6:00 a.m. – alarm went off * 6:30 – walk over to the pool and do a 2 ¼ hr swim session *
breakfast and 10 minutes to get ready for our 8-12 km walks * Come back & collapse on bed * Eat lunch * Gym set * Another 2 ¼ hr swim set * Eat dinner * BED! Woh! Even thinking about that makes me tired.
Nah, it wasn’t just all hard work and sweat. In between I had heaps of fun. We watched movies in the Hotel, played PlayStation, talked, and one day we got a game of basketball happening. We all shared a lot of laughs and jokes.
One thing I’ll have to remember to take next time on a camp are matches (for the toilet). Don’t worry, that’s another story!
The swimming sessions and walks were a real challenge for me. Nighttime reminded me of a prison camp. Lights were out at 9:00 and the only communication that our room had with the next was by knocking on the wall (1 knock meant hello and 2 knocks meant goodnight)
But I feel I gained a lot out of the camp, mentally and physically. I enjoyed learning new things. And apart from bringing home new skills and learning experiences, I know I came back with some new friends.
Yes the Training Camp was hard work, but it made me determined to train hard and to do well in my sport. It inspired me to keep on going (even when I’m dead in training) and especially in times of those dreadful 200 butterfly’s…As the saying goes, No Pain, No Gain!
