FROM THE PRESIDENT Congratulations to Kaine Love for his great effort at the Oceania Swimming Championships that were held in New Zealand last week. As always, Kaine was a good ambassador for the Dapto Swimming Club bringing home more great results. Kaine won a gold medal in the 400m freestyle relay, 800m freestyle relay, silver in the 100m freestyle (52.08), 200m freestyle (1:53.85) & bronze in the 50m freestyle (24.03). Well done Kaine.

Congratulations also go to Faye Rowles who also went to these championships. Faye was representing Australia as a Technical Official, adding to her already international experience. Faye will also be playing a major role at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

The Dapto S.C. is again well represented on the SC&T committee with Faye Rowles re-elected as South Coast President, Keith Oehm reelected as South Coast Treasurer, Micheal Southwell Committee Person, and myself as Publicity Officer and Committee Person.

The Club’s best wishes go to all of our Country representatives when they travel to Canberra on the 7th July for the NSW Country Short Course Championships. We hope that you bring back medals and lots of PB’s.

WHAT'S NEWS
The next club meeting will be held on July 4th at 7:30 p.m. in the Club Room. All are welcome to attend.

Want to purchase a club tracksuit? Orders are being taken now for Club tracksuits. The Clothing Committee needs a minimum of 10 orders before they can go ahead. A $50 deposit must accompany your request. The deadline for new orders has been set for the end of July. Ring Tanya Bates on 42614656, or see Tanya, Julie Glass or Lyn Parsons for details.

The purchase of new Club swimming costumes is still at the debating stage. However, there are limited sizes of old stock available if needed.

Another Warehouse Bus Trip is being organised by Tanya Bates as a fundraiser for the Club. Tentative dates have been set for: October 25th and/or November 4th depending on how many are interested in attending. At this stage we need to estimate numbers and a preferred date/s so a booking can be made in advance. Please let Tanya know ASAP if you are interested. The cost of the Bus Trip has been estimated at $22 per person (including GST). A $10 deposit for each booking will be required when we have the final numbers.

The Club has purchased a new digital camera. Now we will be able to catch some of those ‘magic moments’ we seem to miss too often at swimming carnivals and other Club events!

POOL SIDE
FROM THE RACE SECRETARY:
There were 27 swimmers who attended the SC&T Winter Meet a Beaton Park Pool on Sunday June the 4th. On the day 16 Gold, 7 Silver & 10 Bronze medals were won. Kaine Love, Anita Sernig & Ellen Wooton between them won 19 medals. Other medal winners on the day were Ben Carrick, Brett Hayman, Clint Parsons, Kieran Sernig, Kyle Van Woerkom, Samantha Bates, Leanne Kidd, Jayne Schober & Leisha Southwell.
Special mention should go to Mathew Carrick, Michael Neall & Teagan Southwell who all swam 100% PB’s. Well done to Leisha & Briarna Southwell & Brett Hayman who qualified for Winter Country in the 100m fly, 100m free & 100m breast, and to Ellen Wooton who qualified for the NSW Open in the 100m free & 200m medley at this carnival.
Other highlights included the 10 & Under relay team with Amanda Neall holding her own as she competed with her older brothers in this event. Great swimming Amanda!
Congratulations to all swimmers who competed at this carnival.

The following swimmers are representing the Club at the NSW Winter Country Championships: Briarna Southwell, Leisha Southwell, Ellen Wooton, Jayne Schober, Clinton Parsons, Michael Wells, Nathan Mitchell, Anita Sernig and Kaine Love.

MY OBSERVATIONS OF THE OCEANIA GAMES are as follows: Apart from the Australian and New Zealand Team the other swimmers were from island nations of the and Pacific Ocean. These teams were from, in some cases, very small islands where the swimmers numbered (on the island) as little as ten. The New Zealand team consisted of their Olympic team, and the team Australia sent was virtually from the Australian Age. The standard of swimming was therefore quite low. Needless to say the Australians were competition for each other. A few highlights: Kaine came in second in the 200m free to Danyon Loader from New Zealand, who won several Gold medals at the last Olympics (and apparently was given a talking to-- the next day came out and did a PB for the 50m free)! Danyon Loader has not been swimming recently. The Australian Team was well presented and the behaviour was very good, with the Team clapping the Officials off the deck at every session. FAYE ROWLES

QUALIFYING TIMES for Country & State championships are now available through our Website via the Swimlinks page.

COACHES CORNER
Congratulations to Kaine on making the Oceania Team. Kaine competed in New Zealand recently, achieving some great results!

Leisha (Southwell) little legs excelled herself at the High School Regional 6 km run last month, leaving those sad & sluggish seniors behind in her wake. Leisha came 2nd in her event. Teagan Southwell also ran an excellent race coming 3rd in her division. Well done ladies!

Congratulations to the swimmers who attended the SLC Aquadot carnival last weekend. Although it was a slow moving carnival both coaches were very happy with the results that the swimmers came away with. There were many P.B’s, and three swimmers picked up medals for their swims: Briarna Southwell 3rd in 50m Breaststroke, Zac Ioannou 3rd in 50m Breaststroke & Ben Carrick 3rd in the 50m Butterfly!

It was also a big day for another new member of our squad who attended his first carnival. Campbell Fultcher was cuddled and nursed all day, and he behaved quite well. He was very tired after his hard day at the pool, sleeping till 5am the next morning. Mum is thinking of taking him more often!!

NEW MEMBERS:
The members of the Wrigglers squad would like to welcome a new swimmer to their squad. Amanda Neall has joined our squad and we all hope that she enjoys swimming with her new friends.

The Tadpoles squad would also like to welcome a new member, Jade Oldroyd. She seems to be settling in very well. We hope you are enjoying training with us.

A HUGE congratulations is in order to the Dolphins who trained on Tuesday afternoon. They swam a personal record for The Dolphins Squad by clocking up 4.9km in 1&1/2 hours. Well done guys and keep up the hard work!! KATE & TONI

SQUAD AIRWAYS: What squad member dedicated a song during love song dedication time on the radio to one of our gorgeous backstrokers??? Who is the lucky one???

SWIMMER OF THE MONTH: This is a new award that will be given to a member of our squad each month. To be eligible for the award you must be training consistently during each session, putting in your best efforts at training and showing a positive attitude towards the other squad members. This month’s SWIMMER OF THE MONTH, and the first for 2000 is ASHLEY ROBINSON. Congratulations Ashley and keep up the good work! See Toni for your Swimmer of the Month prize!
