WHAT'S
NEWS
The Trivia Challenge!
A big congratulations to the organisers of the Trivia Challenge, it
was a very successful night. I can assure you that all that attended
had a great night, some more than others did. I believe table 14 took
out the prize for the most noise, which was coming from one certain
member, who couldn't stop giggling all night long. And a strange women
kept coming from another table bearing gifts of lollies, as her team
had designated her as the drinks lady, as she was not very successful
with the answers. The senior swimmers that attended on the night should
also be congratulated on their behavior, and their placing, as they
didn't come last. The Pretzel Heads took out the award for coming last,
(table 14,
the noisy ones). I have never seen so many women run towards a man throwing
their underwear at him, he must of thought he was Tom Jones or something!
Congratulations to Tanya Bates, being the fastest lady to remove her
bra, in a P.B. of 2.5 seconds! Lucky Trevor!
As for all the aeronautical engineers out
there, who folded and refolded their plane, to go further than any plane
had ever gone, were quite bemused to have stood there and witnessed
that it was all in the wrist motion that won the game, it had nothing
to do with the design of the plane. As I sat and looked around the room
I could see the real professionals, the ones that put us all to shame.
There to my left was Ros, with her platter of freshly made cheese and
tomatoes on crackers, making them up as she answered all the questions,
not missing a beat, and further up was a table with such tantalizing
delicacies, as dips inside cobs of bread, and beautifully presented
platters of fruits and cheeses, and at that moment, I struck my hand
back inside on of the many bags of chips which laid across our table
and thought - next year I'll sit with them!

Our
Trip to Thredbo:
Well, after a hard week competing in the NSW Age and Open Championships,
we were off to Thredbo the next day, trying hard not to stress over
a major challenge we were about to face-five days of intensive training
at high altitude - Ouch! We set off in the morning for a 5-6 hour drive.
On the way we stopped off in Cooma for lunch. We entered a little club
on the lifeless main road, where we paid $5 for a tiny burger, served
by an old lady wearing bright blue eye shadow smeared all over her eyelids
and bright red lipstick on her lips - not a good look, especially on
an old wrinkled face.
Accommodation:
We finally arrive at the Thredbo Alpine Village where we stayed. We
had a tiny room with three beds, a bathroom, a fridge, a tv, a window
and a door. It was so hot!
Training:
Altogether, we swam 7 sessions, each about 6km and 2 hours long. Before
each session we did stretches and exercises as a group, then we were
weighed. At the end of the session we were weighed again, so they could
tell if we were keeping hydrated.
We were worked pretty hard, but it was fun. We went to the gym and went
walking too. One day we walked about 8km through the bush, and on our
second last day, we walked up and down Mt Kosciusko (12km). Altogether,
we swam about 39km and walked about 20km (that doesn't include the walk
to and from the pool each day).
Conclusion:
Well, I had lots of fun and got heaps out of it. It was a good experience
and I'm glad I took the opportunity. It's definitely something I'd do
again, and I'd encourage anyone else to do the same thing if they ever
got the chance.
ANITA
Country
Championships - Homebush
We had 17 swimmers from the club attend the Country Championships held
at Homebush this year and I would like to congratulate each and everyone
of them for their fine effort both in and out of the pool. I can honestly
say watching them at the march-past put a lump of pride in my throat.
I was proud to be a Dapto Parent when I saw them come on pool deck in
their wonderful attire, and the way they presented themselves and marched
was just a moment I will remember for a long time. They all held time
beautifully. Unfortunately, they came a very close second to Oak Flats,
but in my heart I know who really won the hearts of the spectators!
Well done Dapto!
Country Championships - Ryde
All the swimmers and parents arrived at different times at the accommodation,
as not everyone could finish work early. A few of the swimmers got to
test out the pool later that afternoon, with a training session and
then later watching a few of the races.
The accommodation was on top of a refurbished pub at Ryde. Unfortunately
there was no guest parking, so most of us drove around for a little
while looking for a parking spot. Ater 6:30 p.m. you could park in front
of the pub. The accommodation was clean and comfortable for most of
us. We all had to share the toilet and showers which were situated at
both ends of the hallway.
The Carricks had the penthouse suite and the Robinsons had the linen
cupboard, which was not to the delight of Julie.
That evening after dinner, the adults ventured out into the downstairs
lounge area of the pub, and the children congregated in the upstairs
lounge room. The management did everything possible to please us, even
buying us a round of drinks. We all ventured upstairs about 1 a.m. the
next morning, feeling very merry.
The next morning we were greeted by Tina, looking like death who informed
us all that she was suffering from a virus and was going back to bed!
It had nothing to do with the 2 glasses of wine, 4 glasses of champaign,
2 scotches, and 4 bourbons that she had drunk that night, because she
can usually mix her drinks and doesn't get sick! So all weekend Tina
had to put up with our sniggers and innuendoes of bottled virus jokes.
Saturday night, the management arranged a dinner for the children, and
then the
parents, which was pasta and salad with bread and fresh fruit platters.
I can assure you Saturday night was much quieter than Friday night,
even though, Keith and Ros got the munchies around about 11 p.m. that
night and returned back at pub with 2 pizzas, garlic bread and chocolate
mouse!
All in all it was a very good weekend away, except for the showers,
Boy were they cold!
