Welcome to all of our members, their families, friends and distinguished guests to the Dapto Swimming Club Inc. Annual Presentation of Awards. First of all, I must congratulate all of today's award recipients, whether they are 1st, 2nd, 3rd or encouragement awards. To receive the first place trophy, you would have to have earned that honour. To receive an encouragement award, again, you would have to have earned that as well. You had to compete on most pointscore nights, therefore showing your commitment to swimming and the club. Well done all swimmers! Although we had a late start to pointscore this year, due to the pool being heated, I think it was worth the wait just to be able to see our swimmers dive into the water and not have to listen to the shriek as they 'broke the ice'. Having warm water all year round hopefully will see the return of some of our former members and the increase of new members for next summer's pointscore. Due to the heating of the pool, the club will trial a winter pointscore. Any person who would be interested in a winter pointscore, please see a committee member today. This year our club championship had a change of programme, again caused by our later start to the season. We found that it was necessary to condense the championship programme so that we would be finished by the start of the school holidays. Congratulations to the following swimmers who were able to set new club records during the club championships: Tahlia Oldroyd, Jesse Bragg, Brielle Baker, Leanne Kidd and Michael Neall (one each), Eliza Vesey (two) and Samantha Bates (three). Well done to all the swimmers who entered the club championships this year. When the committee votes for the Club Person of the Year, they try and think of whom in the club has done the most for the good of the club. Only for the second time in the history of the club, has a non-committee person been the recipient of this prestigious award. Club Person of the Year, 2001-2002 - John Dyer. There are a number of you who probably have never seen John Dyer. John is not very often at the pool during pointscore, but he would be one of the busiest members in our club. I have arrived at the pool on many occasions and found John either washing up dishes that others have left on the sink, vacuuming the clubroom floor or just doing a general tidy up in the clubroom. John is a regular stallholder at the Dapto Showground Markets on Sundays, selling anything that club members have to sell. He gives up his free time at the markets, with all the proceeds, hundreds of dollars going to the club. Congratulations John Dyer - a very worthy recipient of this award. A big thank you to our two main sponsors, The Dapto Leagues Club and the ANZ Bank, Dapto Branch. Norbert Sernig
