PRESENTATION
NIGHT 2000
A warm welcome to all swimmers,
their families and friends, to our annual presentation night. A special
welcome and thank you to Kerrie Love, representing our major sponsors,
the ANZ Bank. Also, we are delighted to have the State Member for Illawarra,
Marianne Saliba MP, along to present our latest perpetual trophy which
she has most kindly donated.
This year has been an exciting
one for our Club. It has seen us gain our first Open Australian representative
in Kaine Love. Kaine recently represented his country and our Club in
the World Short Course Championships in Athens. On a representative
level we have also had Julia Corderoy represent us at an international
disabled meet at Homebush, along with many fine efforts by other swimmers
at a national, state and country level. Once again Dapto swimmers proved
too good for their opposition to take out the Country March Past championship.
This trophy is now becoming a permanent fixture in our trophy cabinet.
As usual we had our normally large representation at local meets with
many fine efforts and personal bests achieved. A highlight was our 10
Years and Under Boys Relay Team taking out gold at Warilla.
As for Club night, this was on
of our bigger years in both swimmer and parent participation. Every
age group in No.1 Points Score was keenly contested with a number of
close results. It was great to see two of our younger swimmers in Amanda
Neall and Mathew Carrick take out the ANZ trophies for the highest overall
points scored throughout the season. Congratulation also to Michael
Wells and Anita Sernig, who each took out their respective Open Club
Championships. It was great to see the parental involvement this year.
Not only did we have a large contingent every week in our over 18's
handicap race, but it was never any trouble to get people to help out
around the pool. Thank you to all those who helped.
The news that our pool will finally
be heated, and eventually fully enclosed, was certainly welcomed by
all and should prove to be a great boost to performance of all our swimmers.
This was brought about due to a great amount of lobbying by our local
politicians, especially Councilors Vicky King, Mark Yates and Violet
Pockock. However without the great effort of letter writing and personal
contact by our members this may not have had the support in Council
that it did. This is a credit to all of us.
On behalf of the Committee enjoy
the night and we'll see you back next season.
