"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and
a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when
you seek me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29:11-13, NIV)
During Lent 2001 (March - mid-April) 12 youth and 6 adult sponsors voluntarily stranded themselves in the Green Valley Christian Association Woods (approximately 10 acres) for 4 weekends during the season. They fasted, worked, prayed, journaled, and competed against one another in physical and mental Reward Challenges. On each Saturday night, all the participants came together at the Affirmation Council where they voted for the person who they think "Best Exemplified Christ" that weekend. At the end of the 101 hours, the person with the most votes won the Grand Prize.
The retreat brought together elements from the Christian spiritual disciplines: prayer, journaling, fasting, scripture reading, service, and meditation. Team work projects helped turn the woods into a functioning recreation area for the community.
