Ten youth and five adults were present for the first weekend of Survivors. Upon arrival, everyone had a moment to introduce themselves and pray. Then the participants were split into two teams and had 3 minutes to grab their personal gear and group gear and start off to their campsite.

Naphtali managed to get their gear together first and found the map in their group tote that would lead them to their site. Issachar was quick to follow... a little too quick it turns out--they began by following Naphtali instead of finding their own map which took them in the complete opposite direction.

Once the two groups found their sites, they quickly set-up camp. Fire was a high priority for both teams since the temperature was dropping rapidly. Both had fires going by nightfall without too much difficulty. Issachar turned-in for the night at 8:30. Naphtali turned-in about 10:00.

After a long, sleepless night in the lower 30's, both groups were awaken about 7:30 AM. They began the day with a series of 3 team building activities. Then they were assigned their Team Projects for the morning. Issachar cleared and burned brush and stacked firewood, Naphtali worked at clearing a 50 year-old glass dump on the north edge of the woods.

At 11:30, the groups broke their fast with communion. This was followed by a simple lunch of apples, bread, and water. The teams returned to their sites after lunch for devotion and free time.

The Deer Hunter's Camp

At 2:30 the teams competed in their first Reward Challenge: The Deer Hunters Camp. In this challenge, four members of each team had to run from the southeast edge of the woods to the northwest corner to retrieve four items from a campsite. Issachar took an early lead and kept it to the end, winning the challenge, the four items, and a box of candy bars (which they shared with Naphtali).

Naphtali went to the Affirmation Council first. They were followed by Issachar. Both teams voted for the person they thought "best exemplified Christ" that weekend. The votes will be revealed at the final Affirmation Council on April 21.
