Darby, Highlander & Fifi
Darby is a our sweet male dalmatian rescue. We obtained him after a
man called the lawfirm where I worked asking if it
was legal to "shoot" a dog within the city limits.
Unfortunately, Darby has had to
have two knee surgeries and had to have his tail
cropped due to it being broken as a puppy. He has
also been diagnosed with cervical vertibral instability
or "wobblers disease" which is a serious spinal cord
disease usually leading to paralysis. We love him
dearly.
Highlander is our baby doberman boy.
His registered name is "Toledobes Highlander V
Dobayr". He just turned one year old and is
currently being shown by his *daddy* in conformation.
FiFi is the little
chihuahua lying on the pillow. She was a dear
sweet little rescue who came to us in early 1999
with many many health problems. She had cardiomyopothy
, a collapsing trechea, and a lesion on her brain that
the veteranarian specialists believed to be a brain
tumor. She only lived with us for about seven months..
.but she was special and made a difference in our
lives! Rest in peace dear FiFi
Greyson
This little guy got us started in the "rescue business."
I saw him for the first time one Spring evening as a young kitten.
He was just a thin little thing and when
I called to him, he came out from under our car
and looked at me and then ran away. I saw him
several times after that and began to put food
out for him.
It was months later,
(after taking in a number of other strays that
were a little less shy and finding homes for them)
that we finally bought a Haveaheart trap and trapped
our little Greyson. He remained ours due to his coy
nature and because he was the reason that we began
feeding and rescuing stray cats.
Today he is
healthy, strong, and quite lovable (although still
quite shy at times) but will always be dear
to us for helping us realize the job
that we had to do. Thank you Greyson!
Louie
We rescued Louie one day while we were donating
extra supplies to our local "humane society".
We saw a man walk in holding a thin beraggled little
orange white cat and tell the people behind the
counter that he "wanted to get rid of this cat"
because his son was allergic. They took Louie and
informed the man that he would probably be put to
sleep because he was "an older cat." And the man
said that he didn't care.
Even though we
had already filled our car with a great dane mix and
two 6 month old cats that other people had been
turning in, we grabbed Louie (actually the humane
society made us pay a $35.00 recovery fee since the
man had actually surrendered Louie).
Well
Louie turned out to be between 10-14 years old and
was suffering from early kidney failure and
ardiomyopothy. We have been treating him for both
diseases for over two years now and he is going
strong! He is a sweet undemanding little boy that
we cherish with all of our hearts!
Oreo
This is the Queen of our household.
She is the smallest and the oldest kitty in our house. Oreo suffers from a chronic upper respiratory
infection...and her little folded ears are the result of hemotomas which were never treated.
The poor little thing has had it pretty rough since her owner of over 12 years dropped her off at a shelter in Virginia...but you would never know it by her attitude! She is definitely the alpha cat and
you can't help but love her for her saucy little
attitude. She is a darling girl...we are so happy to
have her with us!
Poo Bear
Pooh is a sweet little girl who we rescued from a shelter in Virginia when she was almost 12 years old.
After having been an only cat her whole life, Pooh was not adjusting well to living in a shelter with many many other cats. She had lost almost half of her body weight, had an upper respiratory infection, eye infections, and had pulled out most of her own fur due to stress. We decided that we would love to have her spend the rest of her life with us...and have never regretted it for a minute!
Pooh now weighs almost 17 pounds again and is our little kitchen cat. (She likes to sleep on top of the refrigerator.) She is the sweetest girl we have.
Sampson
Sampson was one of our first rescues.
He had been living in our neighborhood for a while
as a lonely boy without a home. He was very shy
and never allowed anyone to get very close to him.
We had to use the Havaheart trap to catch him.
Poor
Samson...even after almost 9 months of working with
him, he refused to come out from under the blanket in
his cage when people were around. So we decided
that he would stay with us. Now he is a very sweet
and loving cat who isn't the least bit shy!
Spirit
Our dearest darling angel--Spirit one of our FIV+ kitties. He is our little boy who came to us from Virginia where he had been living in a feral colony. He was rescued by a very dear lady and came to live with us in January, 1996. Since then, he has been our little angel...always guarding me as he slept above my head on my pillow...with so much love to share...and never asking for anything in return.
As of the middle of October, Spirit has been very ill. It seems his FIV is taking over his body. All of our prayers are for him right now. We all love you so much sweet Spirit.
(NEWSFLASH!!!! Spirit's condition is improving evryday! It seems that he had hemobartonella -a bacteria that destroys red blood cells--and the treatment is working!!!!)
Flash
This is our other little FIV+ boy. He is Spirit's best buddy. We got Flash from a very nice veterninarian who thought he was just too sweet to let the owner have him put to sleep.
Spirit & Flash just adore eachother now...but when we brought Flash home for the first time...so that Spirit would have some company...they fought like crazy. In fact, they fought for almost a year. Now, they clean eachother and sleep together.
They are quite a pair!
Roo & Cheyenne
Roo is the orange & white boy and Cheyenne is his dainty little mother. Both of these kitties came to us as ferals from Virginia where they were rescued by a caring lady.
Today Roo loves to be petted, sometimes pushing other cats out of the way to get his share of attention. Cheyenne remains very shy and delicate...she is still pretty feral...but we love her just the same!
Bear David
Kobe Kat
JP's Pequena Nina del Oro
This little "girl of gold" helped my Mother get over the loss of our little recued girl, FiFi. Since we got her for Mom, she has been non-stop fun rolled up in to a 2 1/2 pound package! We just adore this little wee one...how could anyone not?
