Baralou is a world almost
completely covered with water, with small islands breaking the surface
of its oceans. The four moons which orbit it are often the cause of its
many storms, though most of the life forms that live in the water hardly
notice below forty meters. The creatures that live on the islands have
all adapted to survive the storms, be they gills, wings or the ability
to hibernate when underwater, the plants themselves have adapted to have
extra long roots in order to stay put, they have also adapted a natural
toxin that the animals there can now metabolize, the toxin is dangerous
to non natives species and whereas one meal may result in an upset stomach
any more would be dangerous.
The moons probably contribute
to the worlds natural process that creates the numerous gems of all types
that can be found on almost every island, added to its fertile seas that
produce bountiful food supply, Baralou would make an excellent opportunity
for a trader to make money and during the struggle against the Empire,
the Alliance kept an algae farming base here. The multopos are friendly
and willing to trade many gems for a simple blaster and a few power packs.
The same cannot be said for the Krikthasi, they are a very aggressive race
and as likely to attack as they are to approach willing to communicate,
they are intent on getting as many blasters as possible in order to attack
their enemies, the Multopos. Fortunately the Multopos have avoided worse
forms of exploitation as the traders that have visited so far have kept
the secret well.
When the Sith Warrior Quersin
Jax arrived on the planet, he was searching for an isolated planet in which
to build his home base. On an exile of sorts from the Sith main body,
Jax had retreated to this out of the way planet. His initial conception
was an underwater fortress, which became a training ground for Sith.
While the underwater fortress remains, Jax has since moved to the islands
above, where constructed a temple compound based on those found on Yavin
IV. He has since conquered the planet, and while he is content to
leave the native species as they are, he has formed some into guards and
warriors, which he has augmented using Sith alchemical techniques as the
Sith Lord Exar Kun did upon the ancient Massassi.
The native Multopos and
Krikthasi regard Jax and his followers with a sort of superstitious awe.
The Krikthasi had initially led several uprisings against their Sith conquers,
but Jax quickly and brutally quenched each such rebellion, which has since
left the planet in peace.
Baralou Guard
During the height of the
Empire, an elite unit of stormtroopers served as highly trained peace keepers
of the sprawling Imperial Center. On Coruscant, and select Core Worlds,
law was enforced by the crimson-hued Coruscant Guard. Under the provisions
of martial law and Palpatine's sweeping emergency powers, the Coruscant
Guard were empowered to search any facility or dwelling, arrest any citizen,
and otherwise locate and detain suspected subversives and Rebel agents.
These troopers rarely saw combat engagements, and were instead strictly
for police service.
Quersin Jax formed a similar
force to help protect his system's core world. The Baralou Guard
is an elite cadre of Sith Troopers, trained for urban engagements and other
police actions. They have similar powers to as those of the old Coruscant
Guard, and only the Plateau that serves as the Brotherhood's terrestrial
headquarters is off limits to them.
The red and black Baralou
Guard armor is light and heavily padded, providing excellent protection
against physical attacks. The sophisticated battle helm is lined with advanced
sensors that allow the trooper to operate effectively in complete darkness.
The helmet also includes a comlink scrambler that linked a trooper to other
members of the Baralou Guard. Optional tracking beacon software allows
a unit commander know the whereabouts of his troops at all times. The unit
commander's helmet features a voice-activated heads-up display that show
troop positions.
In addition to blaster sidearms,
the Baralou Guard carried Merr-Sonn taser staves, a standard weapon for
crowd control and riot suppression. The weapon has variable power settings;
it can deliver a lethal or incapacitating charge when it strikes its target.
Some Coruscant Guards also carry the Merr-Sonn R-88 Suppresser riot rifle
that combined the precise targeting of a blaster rifle with the area of
effect of a stun grenade.
