Father:Ephraim Kempton Birth: England
Death: 1655 Scituate,Massachusetts
Notes:
Savage 3:8 says of him:
"Ephraim, Scituate, prob. s. of the preced. b. in Eng. m 28 Jan 1646, Joanna
Rawlins, d. of Thomas, had Joanna, b. 29 Sept. 1647; Patience, 2 Oct. 1648, d.

Mar. next yr. Deane, 299, is deficient in dates."
Info on Ephraim and his family is in "Seeing Double: The Children of Ephraim2
and Joanna (Rawlings) Kempton" by Dean Crawford Smith and Meline Lutz Sanborn,
New England Historical and Genealogical Register 148:342-344. That source
gives his father as Ephraim-1, gives marriage, untangles duplicate conflicting
records regarding actual children and their birth/baptism dates, etc. It does
not elaborate on the birth of either Ephraim or Joanna.

!Marriage(2:Dean): Barbara Lewis Williams p.100. (info appears to have come
from Bucksport VR)
Her birth record might be one of the following (I think the
third is the most likely):
1. "Thankful attwood the daugter of Christopher & Susannah attwood was born
Eastham November 25, 1760" [Eastham & Orleans VR, Mayf.Des.16:198].
Note: Other siblings include: Samuel, Joseph, Christopher, Hannah,
Gideon, and Susannah.
2. "thankful Atwood the Dafter of James and mercy Atwood was born in Eastham
Aprel 16: 1741" [Eastham & Orleans VR, in Mayf.Des. 15:74]
3. Thankful Atwood, dau. of William Atwood and Bathshuah Smith. The will of
Samuel Smith, of Wellfleet, dated 18 April 1768, and proved 11 Oct 1768,
mentioned "heirs of dau. Bathsheba Atwood, viz. Abigail, Martha, John,
William, Bathsheba, Thankful, Anna, and Zoheth.". [RIN = 14846]
Note that there is already a family connection to this one, making it
that much more likely -- Thankful's husband's aunt married this William
Atwood, making her a step-mother to this Thankful.
She is mentioned in the will of her grandfather, Samuel Smith of Wellfleet, as
an heir of dau. Bathsheba Atwood, dated 18 April 1786, proved 11 Oct 1786.
Candidates:
1. David Crooel/Crowell of Chatham and Thankful Atwood of Eastham int. 8 Aug
1759 in Eastham [MD ?:8].
