1. Investigation/Analysis

What do you want the site to do and how are you going to accomplish it? What do your customers want your site to do? Do they want just information or do they what the ability to purchase your product? Customer surveys may be a good start in finding out what is required of your site and the information gathered should be analyzed so that the best possible combination of requirements can be made available to those who choose to visit your site.

2. Analysis/Design

With the information gathered in step 1, a design must be made to incorporate all the requirements that your clients desire. But beyond the basic requirements of the site, you must decide on how to incorporate the requirements in a manner that is easy on and catches the eye. Is your site easy to navigate? Do the colors you have chosen make the site easy to read? Are the colors pleasing to the eye or an eyesore? Is the navigation system you have decided upon logical?

3. Design/Implementation

Once the design has been finalized and all options have been considered, how will your site be made public? Will you host the site on your own servers or will someone else host it? Who will be responsible for upload the site? How will you advertise your site that the word gets out?

4. Implementation/Maintenance

Once the site is on the Web, how will changes to the site be made? Will the information on your site be reviewed on a regular basis or will the site change only when need be? How often will you check for broken links especially links that are from other sites? And who will have the responsibility to make the necessary changes when changes are required?

5. Maintenance/Investigation

During the course of the maintenance phase, the person or persons responsible for the maintenance should be constantly question how the site is set up and how to make the site better? Client feedback should always be taken into consideration. Are there features that were overlooked in the initial design phase? Can the features you offer be made better so that your site is more user friendly?

And so the entire process begins again. The quest for continual improvement is never-ending and the results will be satisfying both to you and to your customers and/or visitors.
