Project Time Line

How long do you have to complete this project?

Read below to find out what you have to do and when you must finish it.

First week: Explore at least two Web sites, choose the role you want to play, find a partner, and make two entries in your surf journal. Discuss what you’ve learned with your partner, and questions and ideas you have.

Second week: Explore two to three more Web sites. Find 5 facts/evidence for each point you need to persuade to the UN. Write another two entries in your surf journal. Find 10 minutes to discuss what you’ve learned this week and ideas or questions you have with your partner. Conference with your teacher.

Third week: Explore another two to three Web sites. Come up with two to three examples/solutions for each point described in your role, and come up with at least two visual aids for your speech. Make another two entries in your surf journal. Discuss how you will organize the information you’ve found with your partner.

Fourth week: Write your persuasive speeches (5-10 minutes for each group), including how you will use your visual aids. Practice three times with your partner and in front of your classmates once. Offer/accept ideas for change and/or improvement from your classmates. Discuss any changes with your partner and teacher.

Fifth week: PERFORMANCE! A Mock United Nations Hearing in front of the whole third grade, wherein the students who are not in your class are the UN delegates that you must persuade to vote the way you want. This will be videotaped.
