Gargantua was a giant with a huge appetite, and resides from Medieval Europe where it is said he ate 5 pilgrims as a salad. Francois Rabelais wrote a story about him entitled Gargantua and Pentagruel.
Gargantua was the origin of the adjective ‘Gargantuan’.
