StarLogin is an application that combines astrological and astronomical functions and data, and includes some future soul horoscope features.
When StarLogin is launched, you are first asked for a password. If after you don't want to keep it, go to the "Display" menu and uncheck "Password": next time you will run StarLogin, the password will not be asked.
Then, a window shows the "tip of the day" at startup, if the box "Display tip of the day at startup" is checked. The "Next tip" button enables you to read other tips, a new one being displayed by clicking on this button. Each tip gives information on a function or possibility of the application.
Then, on top of the main window, the following one is displayed:
You must click on a button to select the corresponding functionality, or close the windows by clicking on the small "x" upper-right button.
The main window shows:
StarLogin enables to display simultaneously several documents and several star charts, the number being limited only by the available memory on you computer. Most of the opened windows can be minimized by clicking on the little "-" button in the upper-right corner of the window. The documents are displayed on the workspace for documents, in the main window, but other ones (charts, data forms...) are minimized on the Windows 95 task bar.
You can change the appearance of the displayed document windows from the "Window" menu. In this one, you can:
StarLogin gives the detailed results for any type of star chart. Almost all the charts, results of calculation and tables (aspects, parts, midpoints ) can be printed. You can save all the displayed results and almost all the types of charts to read them latter. And all the text documents ("*.txt" files or compatible ones) being less than about 200 KB can be read.
Menu and submenus are organized into the following hierarchy:

It shows nine buttons as soon as an event is selected (with the "Event" button or by clicking on "event" submenu in "File" menu) and the events window is closed. The additional buttons are:
If you don't want to display the tool bar, you just have to uncheck "Tool bar" in the "Display" menu.
Four different toolbars are available, among which are the two following ones with small buttons:
Context help and tool tip texts
A context help is available for help upon functions:
Press F1 when the mouse cursor is on the window or the submenu function upon which you want help.
If the help exists, it is displayed.
A tool tip text is visible after less than one second when you maintain the cursor on some button, label or text box. It gives a short explanatory text about the function of the corresponding element or about the way to use it.
If you don't want to display the tool tip texts, you just have to uncheck "Tool tip texts" in the "Display" menu. The modifications immediately occur for some windows, but from the next launch of StarLogin for the other ones.
The status bar at the bottom of the main window displays a descriptive message for each functionality used. In addition, the current date and hour are also displayed. The format of the date depends on your current Windows date format setting.
If you don't want to display the status bar, you just have to uncheck "Status bar" in the "Display" menu.
Some StarLogin functions can be run not only from the menu or from the buttons of the tool bar, but also from the keyboard:

The results of calculation (charts calculations, calculations of stars or asteroids position, for example) are the "documents" of StarLogin.
They are displayed in cascade when created. (See Software presentation), with the tables and data grids in the foreground, but the results of charts calculation are hidden by the chart to which they are bound.
In a given document, you can use the "?" button to look for the word you write into the text box. If the word is found, it is displayed highlighted. If not, the following text eppears in the text box: "?........?". Each new time you click on the "?" button the program looks for the next matching word in the document. You can print the windows of results and the tables (See Printing)
You can save the windows of results under the "*.txt" format.
You can read then latter if you use any text editor (such as Notepad or Wordpad) or any word-processing package, or even in StarLogin. (See To save and to read a chart or a document)
You can filter or sort the data grids (See Data grids)
To save and to read a chart or a document
Most of astrological and astronomical sky charts can be saved for future reading. To save one, click on the icon in the window of the chart and record the corresponding file under a sufficiently explicit name to know what chart it is about (for example "John 2x Saturn Revolution.doz" for the chart of the second return of Saturn after John birth).
To read a saved chart, click on "Open" in the "File" menu, or on the "Open" button of the tool bar, and select the wanted "*.doz" file in the directory where it is stored.
To read a saved document (results of charts calculation or any other saved document of Starlogin or of another application if it is lesser than 200 KB), click on "Open" in the "File" menu, or on the "Open" button of the tool bar, and select the wanted "*.txt" file in the directory where it is stored.
The last eleven saved documents are indicated in the "File" menu. You just have to click on such a file name to open the corresponding document.
When StarLogin is not yet running (but only if you have run it at least one time since its installation or its re-installation), if you double-click on the name of a "*.doz" file, from the Windows 95 explorer, for example, you launch StarLogin and it then automatically displays the chart saved in this file, whatever is the chart type.
When StarLogin is running, you can drag and drop a "DOZ" or a "TXT" file, or even several of them simultaneously selected, to the StarLogin workspace to open this or these files.
Most sky charts and the corresponding results of calculation can be printed by clicking on the icon in the concerned windows.
In addition, in the "data form" about "events" (See: The data forms), the printing button enables you to display a window that shows the list of events in a pre-printed form. You can print it, save it on your hard disk as a Word, Excel, Html or RTF document or event send it via e-mail, according to the button on which you click. (These buttons show a representative icon: a printer to print, a suitcase to store, and a letter to send e-mail):
You can do the same thing in the "Filters and statistics" window (See: Filters and statistics). Here, the events are sorted (by sign, by ascendant, or even by year, for example).
The printer configuration dialog box of Windows can be called from "Printer configuration" in the "File" menu. Or, if you select the option "Printing after configuration" in the "Display" menu, before each printing, the printer configuration dialog box will be automatically displayed.
Starlogin can call the Windows calculator from "Calculator" in the "Display" menu.
If you want to do additional calculations or verifications compared with the results of StarLogin calculations, the calculator is an appreciable complement.
To calculate a normal astrological chart, you can:
You can also:

To calculate an astronomical chart (with local coordinates), you can:
You can also:
See also: Star chart.
To draw any kind of chart:
you can use the "Wizard", calling it from the "File" menu in the main (or workspace) window or from the startup window. Just follow the instructions in the wizard and click on the "Next" button to go to the following step of the chart creation process.
