CORUSCANT
Coruscant

In the entire galaxy, there has never been a city, a place, a planet, or even a system as impressive as Coruscant. Even since the earliest days of the Old Republic, Coruscant has been the cornerstone of the galaxy, residing at coordinates zero-zero-zero. The planet itself is unremarkable, as few of the citizens on Coruscant have ever actually seen the original planet, and those who have must look at historical documents. Coruscant, itself, has no natural land except on the polar ice caps, which are the only remaining signs of nature, and even those are constantly being changed. The entire planet of Coruscant, except for the north and south poles, is a city, filled with endless lights and moving people, as living as the beings which inhabit it.

At all hours of the day, people move about and work, droids build and repair buildings, ships and vehicles cross the sky. Coruscant is the most important place in the galaxy, the centre of the universe. However, being a planet completely covered by a city rising high into the sky, and deep underground has its disadvantages. In the murky depths of Coruscant, thousands of species and specimens lurk in the shadows, waiting for the foolish adventurer to step down into their world. Even the most unintelligent species on Coruscant knows not to leave the bright upper levels of Coruscant, and venture into the undergrowth. The beings and creatures which inhabit the basement levels of Coruscant are impossible to describe, as their shapes and forms vary incredibly, but their fear and hatred of the upper levels is obvious.

Aside from the dangers of living in a city as populous as Coruscant, the mere amount of energy consumed by Coruscant per day because of its size creates dangerous pollution levels. All citizens who step out into the open must be careful and wear protective clothing against the pollution. Fortunately, nearly every building, of the millions of buildings on Coruscant, is linked together by walkways and passages, so that only the most important tasks will take people out into the smoke. Yet for all the problems with Coruscant, it has many beautiful parts to it as well. The city is well designed, and each building reaches to the heavens.

Due to the size of Coruscant, many of the galaxy's most impressive museums and attractions have settled there, providing entertainment and information to the billions of citizens. Some of the more impressive attractions include the Grand Towers, the Skydome Botanical Gardens, the underground city of Dometown, the Holographic Zoo of Extinct Animals, and the Galactic Museum. Monument Plaza is also a popular attraction, built around one of the peaks of the Manarai mountain range, where citizens and tourists can actually touch bare rock.

Defended by multiple shield generators scattered throughout the planet, Coruscant is also looked down upon from space by a massive Golan 3 platform. The Golan 3 platform provides a more than adequate defense against any unauthorized intruders, and so the citizens of Coruscant are relatively safe. During the Emperor's reign of the Empire, Coruscant was renamed Imperial City, and though its name changed back to Coruscant temporarily, it shortly returned to Imperial City. Even after the Battle of Endor, the New Republic did not take Coruscant, until they realized that it was truly an example of power. Until that point, they had been an unofficial government, but they realized with the capture of Coruscant, they would be far more official.

The New Republic sent members of Rogue Squadron to find a way to take down the shields of Coruscant, so that the New Republic could invade and capture it. Even after their capture of Coruscant, the New Republic did not change its name. Imperial City will always be home to some of the greatest members of the New Republic, including Admiral Ackbar, Admiral Drayson, and even Luke Skywalker. Imperial City was also once home to Darth Vader, who owned a hidden retreat there, but during the attack a Rebel B-Wing destroyed it. When Luke Skywalker went to live on Coruscant, he built his own hidden retreat with the stones of Vader's. Imperial City, also known as Coruscant, was and always will be the greatest planet in the galaxy.
