Dolphus Bar, the brilliant Calamari strategist of Storm Squadron, did not always enjoy such a free life. He was born on the peaceful world of Mon Calamari, and was living a good life until the presence of the Empire. When Emperor Palpatine enslaved his race, Dolphus was still just a boy. He lost contact with his parents as he was being transported to the Maw Installation. There he was forced to work as a slave, performing the raw labor force needed to build the Emperor's super weapons. Growing up in these laborsome conditions, he became very strong physically, and also began secretly studying battle techniques he had learned from a Bothan who was also under inslavement there. This was his only chance to regain his freedom.

After years of secretive study and practice, when Dolphus was seventeen standard years of age he attacked and killed his overseer using nothing but his bare hands. He planted evidence on another Imperial overseer, and the in the uproar that followed the murder, he escaped with his aging Bothan friend from his life as slave.

Being free for the first time since he was a boy, he first made his way back to his homeworld during the weeks before the Battle of Endor. In an effort to help destroy the evil Empire which had kept him a slave his entire life, he joined up with the Rebellion and served as a gunner on Home One, Admiral Ackbar's flagship, during the battle.

After seeing what the efforts of one pilot could do, he transferred to the New Republic Starfighter Corps shortly after the Rebel victory at Endor. There, he found that he was a skilled pilot, and soon was second in command of Green Squadron. When his assignments began to be less important, he wondered if there was something more he could do to stop the remnants of the Empire he hated. He then resigned from the Republic Starfighter Corps and spent his savings on a fighter.

Dolphus intended to be a mercenary but within weeks of life on his own, he found that he had been referred to the elusive Storm Squadron Independant Space Force countless times, so he looked into it. After setting up contacts with them for months, he finally met with the leaders, who gave him a shot to join up. They were very impressed with his flying ability as well as his fighting capabilities in hand-to-hand combat. His unmatched capabilities as a strategist also drew their attention to him. They rallied him immediately following his testing and he has remained an intergal part of Storm Squadron ever since then.
